The Department of Pathology is seeking a Staff Nurse to provide specialized care to patients in a highly regulated environment. Perform work that involves numerous steps and techniques that require the use of professional judgment. Operate cell separators and other equipment while caring for patients undergoing apheresis procedures. Provide care to patients with varying levels of acuity and age, ranging from outpatients to highly acute inpatients. Supervise designated laboratory staff as directed.
This position is 100% time, Monday – Friday, with applicant's choice of 8-hour shifts (0730-1600) or 10-hour shifts (0700-1730), with rotating on-call coverage for evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Duties to include:
- Performs therapeutic phlebotomy for patients.
- Performs therapeutic apheresis procedures and assists in the development of the patient care plan.
- Reviews and/or participates in quality control and preventive maintenance of equipment
- Draws Laboratory samples as required.
- Performs record keeping and data collection using manual and computer methods.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- An Associate’s Degree in Nursing, a Diploma in Nursing, a Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing, Professional Masters of Nursing and Healthcare Practice (MNHP), MSN/Clinical Nurse Leader or a Master’s Degree in Nursing (MSN, MA) is required.
- Current license to practice professional nursing in Iowa.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.
- Demonstrates excellent interpersonal skills with patients/families, nursing staff, and interdisciplinary team members as demonstrated through written and verbal interactions.
- General computer skills are required.
- Proven capacity to function with a high degree of autonomy while actively collaborating within a multi-disciplinary team.
- Excellent organization sills and ability to multi-task.
Desirable Qualifications:
- 1-3 years acute care nursing experience.
- Previous experience using electronic medical records.
- Knowledge of university policies and procedures.
- Experience working in a blood donor or apheresis center.
- Experience using highly specialized medical equipment.
