Sr. Research Specialist

We are seeking a Sr. Research Specialist who will be responsible for scientific and administrative activities and oversight of a cancer research laboratory. The applicant will be responsible for vivarium maintenance, processing of clinical study biospecimens, cell/tissue culture, support of laboratory projects, laboratory space and equipment upkeep, ordering, and supervision of research subordinates.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

• Supervises laboratory vivarium colonies with emphasis on adhering to IACUC guidelines on weaning mouse pups, setting up breeding cages, ensuring animals with ulcerated/over-sized tumors are euthanized promptly in accordance with the lab’s animal protocol or in response to facility veterinarian’s clinical calls.
• Performs and supervises genotyping/phenotyping (when needed) of global and conditional knockout strains of mice to ensure adequate numbers of mice are available for in vivo studies on a regular basis.
• Works closely with institutional collaborators to provide technical and logistic support for clinical sample (blood, ascites and solid tumors) processing, analysis, data generation and maintenance of de-identified clinical information databases.
• Reviews techniques and research protocols to ensure reproducibility and issues recommendations.
• Works with laboratory staff to evaluate their technical knowledge and skills and assists in the training of other laboratory personnel.
• Acts as a lead technical authority overseeing laboratory staff and is responsible for the overall daily operation of the laboratory including workload and personnel scheduling, quality control, inventory, and equipment maintenance.
• Supports research projects of students, fellows and other lab members as and when required.

• Bachelor's Degree in Biology, Chemistry or related field.
• Four year's experience in a comparable laboratory performing relevant techniques.
• Master's degree, with related graduate research, may substitute for experience to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
