The School of Medicine on the Savannah, Georgia campus is searching for a Imaging Core Director and Research Laboratory Manager.
Responsibilities:
IMAGING CORE DIRECTOR (40% FTE): The Imaging Core Director provides leadership of a comprehensive multi-modal imaging facility. The role involves management of sophisticated instrumentation including fluorescent, bright-field, confocal, and transmission electron microscopy platforms, ensuring optimal performance through implementation of rigorous quality control and preventive maintenance protocols. The Director will leverage advanced microscopy expertise to strengthen faculty grant applications, assisting in critical preliminary data and technical consultation that enhances the competitiveness of external funding proposals. The position requires development and execution of strategic plans for technology acquisition, establishment of cost-recovery mechanisms, and advancement of facility capabilities through evaluation and integration of emerging imaging technologies. The Director serves as the facility's primary technical advisor, delivering specialized training, fostering academic and clinical partnerships, and representing the facility at regional and national forums while ensuring continuous technological advancement and research support capabilities. The Director must complete an extensive training program.
LABORATORY MANAGER (40% FTE): The Laboratory Manager provides oversight of research laboratory facilities on the Savannah campus of MUSM, working in collaboration with the Department Chair. Responsibilities include implementation and enforcement of departmental research policies, optimization of resource utilization, and standardization of research material handling protocols. The role requires sophisticated management of laboratory operations, encompassing inventory systems, analytical reagent preparation, equipment maintenance logistics, and strategic procurement of supplies and instrumentation. The position demands comprehensive oversight of laboratory safety
compliance while providing advanced technical guidance to research personnel and students. The Laboratory Manager must demonstrate the ability to work independently to advance departmental research initiatives.
VIVARIUM CAREGIVER (20% FTE): The Vivarium Caregiver will assist in laboratory animal facility operations, including supply chain management, equipment maintenance oversight, and implementation of standardized animal care protocols in accordance with institutional and regulatory requirements. The position involves comprehensive monitoring of facility operations, procurement of
essential supplies, maintenance of specialized equipment, and assistance with standardized animal care procedures to ensure optimal research outcomes and regulatory compliance.
