About the role:
Provides leadership, vision, direction and cross functional alignment to the advanced concepts and clinical research components of the Neuromodulation Research and Development organization. This role will have direct ownership for the research portfolio and clinical strategy and will require participation, contribution and alignment to the divisional business unit strategy.
Expected to be an influential expert in the field of Neuromodulation from a technology and clinical research perspective and be able to discuss research opportunities that advance the field with other experts, researchers and key opinion leaders across the world.
This person should be able to define a compelling vision of the future of the field combining scientific, clinical and business opportunities. This leader is expected to influence the senior management leadership of the Neuromodulation division to define a strategy and plan consistent with that vision, and therefore help align the cross functional franchise leaders and functions towards that common goal. This person will lead the combined NRAC and clinical strategy teams, covering from exploratory and translational research projects to planning of pivotal studies for new technologies and therapies in neuromodulation.
Responsibilities:

Lead exploratory and applied research activities, including computational modeling of biological systems, pre-clinical and human feasibility studies, as part of the process of developing new indications, products and technologies in neuromodulation.

Lead development of applied concepts (algorithms, system designs, features, use models, etc) and technologies for next generation neuromodulation systems, through exploratory and technology development activities.

Leads the planning of translational clinical studies to develop the knowledge and capabilities required to execute pivotal studies, based on results from positive exploratory research. This includes protocol development, definition of study objectives (clinical and functional) to meet business and scientific needs, and outcomes evaluation.

In collaboration with Clinical Operations, Marketing and HEMA, leads the generation of the overview and synopsis of pivotal studies (objectives, design, inclusion/exclusion criteria, endpoints) to meet scientific and clinical evidence, market claims and regulatory needs and requirements.

Support Clinical Operations in their tasks to execute clinical research programs planned by this function.

Communicate and drive cross functional alignment for research and clinical strategies at Director level and above. Joins senior management in the developmet of scientific and clinical objectives and programs in alignment with business objectives and strategies.

Identifies new strategies and projects for the investigation of new or improved products and/or applications to satisfy customer and business needs. Collaboratively determines short and long term product strategies and technologies, aligning the franchise leadership towards a future vision.

As a functional leader, creates and champions functional excellence, driving improvement efforts on process, products and people.

Identifies future technology and intellectual property critical to future business growth and drives implementation. Active participant in the due diligence process for acquisition and licensing opportunities.

Develops and executes budgets and schedules to meet corporate requirements and commitments.

Establish extensive internal contacts across BSC and external contacts with physicians and/or industry specialists.

Builds strategic partnerships to further departmental and organizational objectives. Interacts internally and externally with executive level management, outside regulatory agencies, customers, vendors and/or suppliers.
