The Impact You’ll Make in this Role
As the ISD R&D Ops & PMO leader, you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative people around the world. Here, you will make an impact by:
- Collaborating with the ISD R&D Leader and Lab Leadership team to build the innovation and commercialization strategy, focused on accelerating innovation and commercialization of new products
- Enhancing ISD’s Project Management capabilities and capacity by developing, training and directing a team of project managers to lead priority division projects and coach teams and team leaders on efficiently navigating 3M’s new product introduction (NPI) systems and processes.
- Working in collaboration with the Safety & Industrial Business Group R&D Ops Leader to articulate and deploy action plans to improve NPI effectiveness and capacity
- Serving as the owner of the ISD NPI dashboard, reporting Key Performance Indicators and providing insights and recommending improvement actions to reach the NPI goals
- Supporting the ISD R&D operation processes including preparation of ISD lab strategic plan, quarterly review report-outs, and monthly NPI performance reports.
In this strategic role, you will be a member of the ISD R&D leadership team, collaborating with the R&D leaders to drive a culture of performance and continuous improvement, shaping the operational strategies that align with both the short- and long-term objectives
Your Skills and Expertise
To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher (completed and verified prior to start)
- Five (5) years of NPI commercialization and/or R&D leadership experience in a private/industrial environment in a private, public, government or military environment
Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:
- Master`s degree and/or Ph.D. in Engineering, Materials Science or Chemistry from an accredited institution
- Ability to guide an organization on a turnaround journey, leading by influence and communicating across levels and functional roles
- Strong data management skills such as PowerBi, Excel and 3M NPI systems to be able to know and extract what data is important, understand trends in the NPI process, and take actions for improvement.
- Project management skills and expertise that includes PMP, Agile, SCRUM, Six Sigma, PPU, and DOE/statistical analysis.
- Demonstrated experience with driving innovation and commercialization, enabling businesses to launch new products and impact growth
- Ability to build and implement commercialization strategies and tactics to improve the innovation and commercialization process, capabilities, and organization skill sets
- Ability to coach, develop and lead people
