Summer internships at Brakebush are project-based. Interns experience a variety of projects that can include data collection, analysis, reporting, data entry, policy and procedure, market research and more. At the end of the summer internship program, we host a banquet, so interns have an opportunity to showcase their projects to various leaders within Brakebush.
 

Our immersive summer internship program offers opportunities for interns to learn about Brakebush culture, operations and more. Our goal is that interns have a better understanding of the business and challenges of their assigned department, and a greater knowledge of what leads to success in a food manufacturing business.

What you will do: 

As a FSQA intern, you will gain a better understanding of the poultry industry focusing on the production of Safe, Quality Food. You’ll work with our team members and collaborate with other interns. 

 

You will gain experience in the following areas:
 

• HACCP & SSOPs (programs and record keeping)
• Quality Inspections
• Foreign Material Control
• Food Safety Trainings (Food Defense, Allergen, Crisis Management)
   

Qualifications for the internship: 

• We are looking for students pursuing a Bachelor's Degree in Food Science, Food Safety, Poultry Science, Meat Science, Animal Science or related field
• Preferred: Junior or Senior
• Currently holding a GPA of 2.75 or higher
• Passion for learning and growing

 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

• Strong communicator, public speaking experience, and relationship builder
• The ability to work in a fast paced, cold, wet, and loud environment
• Able to work autonomously and with a team
• Strength with strategic, analytical thinking and attention to detail
• Positive attitude and adaptability
• Use of MS Office (PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook) and Teams

Must be prepared to follow GMPs (Good Manufacturing Practices): 

• No jewelry or piercings are allowed on the plant floor.
• No false fingernails or fingernail polish on the plant floor.
• PPE and a uniform will be worn if on the plant floor. 
• No shorts; professional business casual attire only.
   

Your internship will be in an office or plant environment.   The work environment could include temperature variations (-10 freezer, 32-degree coolers, 40-degree plant, wet cold environment), noise level variations that may require hearing protection, wet and damp conditions, slippery floors, and both inside and outside work environments.
 

This position will include extensive standing at times, sitting, lifting, wearing factory required equipment while working in production, walking, visual, responding quickly to sounds and driving.
