Description
The Professional Nursing Practice Operations Manager is responsible for the day-to day support of Professional Practice of Nursing throughout Children's National. Works in collaboration with the nursing leadership team to plan, implement, direct and evaluate service/department activities for Children's National Medical Center in accordance with accepted national standards and administrative policies. Assumes responsibility to achieve Professional Nursing Practice objectives and holds staff accountable. Partners with Director of Nursing Science, Professional Practice and Quality to ensure that a) all of nursing practice is based on the legal scope of practice, national and specialty nursing standards (including Magnet), Children's National Policies and Procedures, and in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations, and b) the quality of nursing practice aligns with and supports the Professional Practice Model. Evaluates and implements the Professional Model of Care ensuring alignment with and support of RNs professional practice. Facilitate Nursing Professional Practice activities within the Division of Nursing including implementation and evaluation of shared governance; adoption and dissemination of evidence-based practice and research; alignment of practice with Registered Nurse professional practice. Provide input in the hiring development and ongoing evaluation of assigned staff to meet operational objectives.Qualifications
Minimum Education
Master's degree in nursing or related field, with baccalaureate degree in nursing (Required)
Minimum Work Experience
At least 7-10 years of related and progressive acute care and management experience. (Required)
Required Skills/Knowledge
Proficient with use of computers, computerized technology and applications. Competent with use of Excel. Open to learning new software and web based applications.
Required Licenses and Certifications
Registered Nurse in District of Columbia (Required)
Licensure/certification in specialty required as applicable (Required)
Functional Accountabilities
Strategic Planning
- Partner with the CNO, Nursing Leadership and SNL Councils to:
- 1. Operationalize the strategic plan for department services, include short and long-term objectives.
- 2. Evaluate effectiveness of the Professional Practice department
- 3. Modify program/service delivery as needed.
- 4.Assist with creation, implementation and evaluation of the nursing strategic plan.
- 5.Assist to actualize core competencies at the unit level.
Program Administration
- Partner with the CNO, Nursing Leadership and SNL Councils to:
- 1. Identify and troubleshoot operational issues and develop action plans focused on issue resolution.
- 2. Address significant operational issues/barriers.
- 3. Assist in development, implementation and evaluation of services, programs, policies and procedures, performance and quality improvement standards to achieve departmental goals.
- 4. Evaluate ongoing and new program initiatives for effectiveness, feasibility and cost.
- 5. Ensure compliance with Children’s National policies and procedures, and regulatory standards.
- 6. Develop a research process as principal investigator, collaborator or evaluator; support the translation of research into practice.
- 7.Support and coach SNL Councils and other teams in the process of translation of Professional Practice activities into new knowledge through various methods of dissemination.
