Position Summary

The Engineering Associate position for this area, (Gas Engineering), develops construction plans, written specifications and budget estimates for the planning, construction, installation and relocation of gas distribution and transmission facilities for civic and system improvement projects, customer related line extensions and meter setups, system renewal project and pipeline integrity projects. 

Tasks and Responsibilities

• Prepares written justifications for gas construction projects

• Manages consultants on assigned gas projects

• Specifies and initiates the purchase of non-standard materials and associated services

• Monitors and manages maintenance and gas construction projects and conducts acceptance pressure tests on newly constructed gas pipelines

• Researches and interprets various regulatory codes to ensure compliance for gas construction system

• Researches and evaluates new materials and technologies for potential applications in the gas system

• Monitors the performance and analysis of data associated with gas distribution and transmission systems and assists with compilation of information for regulatory and company reporting, benchmarking and process development requirements

• Develops and update design, construction, operation and maintenance standards process and procedures for Gas Engineering Area

• Assists in developing capital budgets for gas projects

• Troubleshoots problem areas

• Develops and utilizes computer models of the gas systems for the purpose of developing design criteria for projects and maintaining and updating the long-range growth, emergency operating plans or developing pressure operations

• Performs other duties as assigned

Minimum Skills

Minimum Knowledge and Abilities

Basic knowledge of fundamental engineering concepts, practices and proceduresAbility to work in a team environment, coordinating with other related areas to complete tasks and projectsEffective interpersonal skills and written communication skills to work with all levels of personnel within the organizationAbility to perform multiple work activities with a minimum of supervision and prioritize workload effectivelyAbility to use personal initiative to recognize needs and research skills to solve problems when necessaryAbility to work call duty and occasional unscheduled work in the evenings, weekends, or holidays after experience level permitsAbility to travel occasionally, to off-site work, to seminars, manufacturing plant inspections, etc.Ability to obtain Professional Engineer License in State of TexasProficient in Microsoft Office Package, including word processing, spreadsheets, database, presentation software, electronic mail and scheduling

Preferred Qualifications

Engineer-In-Training (EIT) designation from Texas Board of Professional Engineers

• Professional Engineer (PE) licensed in Texas 

• Basic experience with gas distribution or gas transmission systems

• Technical writing experience or college course work in technical writing

• Experience with Computer Aided-Drafting systems and Bentley Microstation software V8i

• Familiarity with ESRI GIS software and Arc FM Designer software

• Experience with SAP and Work Manager software

Minimum Education

Bachelors of Science degree in an engineering field from an ABET accredited four-year college or university

Working Environment

Work is performed indoors & outdoors. Manual dexterity, talking, hearing, and repetitive motion. Use of computing equipment, telephone, & printer/copier. Ability to travel to and from business related events. After hours work may be required.
