Sr Software Engineer I - Terraform, Ansible

Job Summary 

Subject matter expert in Terraform, HashiCorp Vault, and Ansible to lead our automation efforts.  Candidates should have a strong understanding of API-centric and microservices-based architectures, and experience with cloud platforms and containerization.  This role includes collaboration to determine fit, offering of guidance, and sharing recommendations.  You will work closely with and report to the Lead Product Manager. This role involves research and staying abreast of the latest releases to align our strategy effectively.

Be prepared to function as a top-level technical expert to design and maintain infrastructure as code, manage policies with Vault, and integrate the Elastic stack for enhanced monitoring and logging.  Partner with management to identify and research application problems, search for solutions, and make recommendations.  Applicants will be required to engage in ongoing background checks through the duration of this position with continued passing results.

 

Primary Activities and Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain infrastructure as code using Terraform to automate the provisioning and management of cloud resources
• Develop and maintain automation scripts and playbooks with Ansible to streamline configuration management and deployment processes
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure secure development and deployment processes
• Monitor and optimize the performance and security of Vault clusters and instances
• Automate secret management workflows and ensure integration with existing systems
• Translate functional requirements into working solutions
• Create service patterns to facilitate the inter-operability business systems APIs
• Follow best practices around developing and maintaining secure systems
• Provide impact analysis for changes to programs and systems
• Provide production support responsibilities for one or more products
• Debug and resolve issues with code of significant complexity spanning multiple interfacing applications
• Actively engage with individuals and groups at all levels of the organization, internally and externally to ensure alignment between business needs and technical deliverables
• Serve as technical subject matter expert for one or more areas
• Leads team in identifying and clearing dependencies (trailblazing)
• Guides technology teams with usage of CSX Enterprise Standard techniques, tools and libraries along with building applications that follow CSX design principles and code quality standards
• Serve as a liaison and a champion to ensure alignment and adoption, including development design patterns, coding standards, DevOps, testing coverage strategies and Agile practices
• Mentor team and peers across technology
• Partner with Enterprise Architecture to define development standards for the organization
• Provide leadership and technical direction to team members

Knowledge and Skills

• Proven experience with Terraform, Vault, and Ansible in production environments
• Strong understanding of security best practices and secret management
• Proficiency in scripting languages (e.g. Python, Bash)
• Familiarity with DevOps methodologies and tools (Jenkins, GitHub CI/CD, Ansible)
• Agile Scrum methodologies and their application
• Ability to use multiple tools and techniques to facilitate the design, development, and integration of business systems
• Change management processes and the full Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) concepts
• Computer programming and willingness to learn new technologies
• Debugging and problem solving
• Ability to contingency plan, analyze systems for efficiencies, and develop test case scenarios
• Systems documentation (requirements and technical design)
• Ability to communicate and collaborate effectively (both written and orally)
