Responsibilities
Peraton is seeking a Satellite Controls Console Operator that will join our Near Space Operations Control Center (NSOCC) team to support our NASA Space Exploration Network Services and Evolution contract (SENSE) in Greenbelt, MD. As prime contractor on the SENSE contract, Peraton is responsible for the operation, maintenance, sustainment, and systems engineering of NASA’s worldwide satellite communication networks. As a member of the NASA SENSE contract, you will be a part of a dynamic team responsible for systems engineering, design, development, integration, test, and maintenance of a new platform (DAPHNE+) which will enable any mission to be supported by any service provider. DAPHNE+ will enable NASA to provide communications and navigation services in the Near Space Region to NASA missions and other customers.
As a member of the NSOCC team as a Console Operator, you will support our NASA client in monitoring and control of the NSOCC DAPHNE+ system to ensure ongoing support to launch vehicles, robotics missions, and human spaceflight. This will require being part of a team providing network support that will eventually become 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Activities will include operating the DAPHNE+ system, supporting real-time NASA missions, supporting testing of new DAPHNE+ capabilities, recommending enhancements to the DAPHNE+ system, and interfacing with various NASA Civil Servants & Contractor personnel. This position requires working onsite at the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC).
This position will be responsible for:
- Collaborating with members from the DAPHNE+ project development team to understand project activities, and to monitor implementation planning, test activities, and network system updates.
- Monitoring overall DAPHNE+ operations performance to ensure system availability for receiving, processing, and delivering required communications and data.
- Monitoring AWS resources including cost comparisons and data file receipt tracking.
- Supporting efforts to quickly identify system performance issues, investigate root cause, and coordinate problem resolution. Must respond quickly and effectively during critical and emergency situations.
- Generating and maintaining pertinent documentation such as discrepancy reports, daily reporting summaries and significant event reporting.
- Reviewing, Editing, and Creating system user manual documentation and provide insight for possible improvements of legacy documentation.
- Supporting the development of required checklists and local operating procedures (LOPs).
- Serving as primary operations point of contact for missions and space link providers (SLPs) when on duty.
- Support the onboarding and training of future DAPHNE+ system operators.
- Working different shifts, weekends, and holidays as part of evolving mission support requirements.
- The ability to remain calm and focused throughout your shift as this position will be stationed inside of a 24/7 operations center with various other mission support operations taking place at any given time.
- The need to maintain strong time management skills to properly log live and historical events throughout your shift as well as participate in collaborative shift handovers.
- As this position takes place in an operations center, you must also be able to work in a dimly lit environment for your entire shift (consoles have individual lights for console desktop visibility).

Qualifications
Required Experience:
- Education/Experience: degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Physics, Physical Science, Mathematics, or other related technical field and relevant experience is required as follows: 2 years' experience with BS/BA; 4 years' experience with AA/AS degree; without a degree, 6 years' experience may be considered.
- 2+ years of experience supporting a varied customer/client/user base. Live operations environment and/or time sensitive resolution experience a plus.
- 2+ years of experience with operations, maintenance, and sustainment of network data processing systems and equipment.
- Knowledge of various IT hardware, software, cloud services, and networking concepts.
- An understanding of the software development lifecycle including required activities for installation of software upgrades, patching and testing.
- The ability to assess and report data accurately, quickly, concisely, and consistently.
- Experience working within a ticketing system (e.g. Remedy, ServiceNow, Maximo, etc.).
