About the role

Responsibilities

Peraton is seeking a Systems Engineer Lead to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position is remote, with ability to travel occasionally to Kearneysville, WV (up to 10%). The qualified applicant will become part of Peraton’s Infrastructure Managed Service (IMS) Program, for the Unites States Coast Guard (USCG). This initiative is modernizing and consolidating the engineering and operational environment under a managed service to better support the services provided to the USCG. As part of the IMS program, the System Engineer will be responsible for providing engineering guidance across the Technical Services team, including requirements definition, design, implementation, and testing.

 

Day to Day Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Leads a team of Infrastructure and Platform Engineers.
  • Designs, develops, evaluates, and refines end-to-end systems and products throughout their life cycle.
  • Gathers project requirements from customer specifications, system planning, and design, ensuring alignment with client needs and government standards.
  • Translates high-level product development strategies into detailed system requirement specifications, collaborating with other engineering disciplines.
  • Establishes and oversees the development of standards, practices, and procedures relevant to product development.
  • Evaluates performance using defined criteria and technical measures.
  • Participates in design reviews of hardware and software components to ensure alignment with the current system and traceability of requirements.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree with 8 years’ experience or Master's degree with 6 years’ experience or HS Diploma/equivalent and 12 years experience
  • Must be a US Citizen with an active Secret security clearance or must have the ability to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance
  • Must have proven leadership experience in overseeing technical teams within a large-scale data center setting.
  • Proficiency in Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) and Platform as a Service (PaaS).
  • Hands-on experience with both Windows server and Linux systems.
  • Proficient in automation, virtualization, and monitoring technologies.
  • Prior experience in Windows image building.
  • Strong familiarity with STIG (Security Technical Implementation Guide) and security remediation procedures.
  • Deep understanding of various operating systems, network and system infrastructure, networking protocols and services, and enterprise architectural design.
  • Capable of working with and leading a small team of PaaS Engineers.
  • Exceptional problem-solving, critical thinking, and analytical skills, with the ability to break down complex issues.
  • Minimum of 1 of the below certification’s is required or must have the ability to obtain upon hire :
    • CompTia Security+
    • CISSP
    • CISM
    • CEH

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Thorough understanding of industry best practices, with proven experience in analyzing and aligning business processes with both industry and Department of Defense (DOD) standards.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage large-scale environments comprising over 1000 servers, leveraging a variety of tools.
  • Proficient in scripting, particularly in PowerShell automation, to streamline patch management processes.
  • Strong knowledge of network, system, and application security, including expertise in various vulnerability scanning solutions, scripting, and automation methods.
  • Familiarity with AWS and Azure cloud environments, their architectures, and services.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the capacity to effectively articulate technical solutions to senior management.
