Department Summary

The Center for Mathematics and Science Education (CMSE) works to improve mathematics and science education in Mississippi by fostering interaction between academic and K-12 communities, support the implementation of research-based methods in the classroom, and promote interest in the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). The CMSE is a grant funded entity that reports to the School of Education at the University of Mississippi.

 

Through collaborative efforts the CMSE provides professional development for K-12 math & science teachers and provides opportunities for K-12 students to engage in the STEM fields. The CMSE fosters a continuous learning community within the department by working across the Professional Learning and K-12 STEM Experiences Divisions. We engage both undergraduate and graduate students in the work of the CMSE.

Role Summary

The Mississippi STEM Education Alliance (MSEA) Program Coordinator will be responsible for coordinating the newly funded National Science Foundation STEM Teacher Corp Pilot Program housed at the Center for Mathematics and Science Education. 

Key responsibilities include: managing fiscal, administrative, and operational activities within the program, tracking and recruiting participants, coordinating travel details, preparing reports, newsletters and/or other informational materials for internal and external distribution, coordination of project team.

  • Coordinate newly funded project
  • Coordinates the implementation and operation of the program, project team, and participants 
  • Meets weekly with Program Director
  • Prepares agendas, reports, presentations as needed 
  • Gathers data
  • Ensures compliance with funding agency
  • Serves as a liaison to internal and external partners
  • Uses Canva, Constant Contact, myEmma to create reports, newsletters, and communications
  • Coordinates and plans events for funded project
  • Helps develop recruitment plans and efforts for participants
  • Uses Smartsheet in day to day operations within department 

Essential Functions

These essential functions include, but are not limited to, the following.  Additional essential functions may be identified and included by the hiring department.

1. Assists in managing daily operations of the projects, programs or office to which assigned.
2. Establishes and/or maintains a recordkeeping system for programs, projects or office to which assigned and enters data into records or into system databases as appropriate and as needed.
3. Plans and develops methods and procedures for implementing projects.
4. Establishes and maintains productive relationships with state, federal, and private agencies as appropriate and as directed.
5. May coordinate events or conferences, from planning and advertising, to contracting for services from vendors, to registration and event completion. 
6.Initiates contractual agreements between the University of Mississippi and outside agents for supervisors review and signature.

Minimum Education/Experience

Education: Bachelor's Degree

Substitution Statement: An equivalent combination of related experience and education may be considered for this role. Substitutions of the required experience or education will be assessed on a 1:1 substitution basis.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Preferred qualifications include a bachelor's degree and at least one year experience with the duties related to the position.
  • A quality candidate would communicate clearly, possess organizational skills, and exhibit keen attention to detail.
