Position Summary

Concordia University Wisconsin invites applications for a full-time, 12-month position of Chair of the Department of Pharmaceutical and Administrative Sciences. The position includes an appointment as Associate Professor or Professor. The Chair provides vision, strategic direction and operational support for the Department of Pharmaceutical and Administrative Sciences. The Chair, in conjunction with the Deans' Office, also acts as a liaison for the School of Pharmacy to the University Office of Research and Sponsored Programs. The Chair is an integral member of the School of Pharmacy administrative team through active participation in the planning, implementation and evaluation of school and institutional activities.

The Department of Pharmaceutical and Administrative Sciences is dynamic and diverse, as its members populate a variety of pharmaceutical science, social administrative science and public health disciplines, all working together to help our students develop into outstanding pharmacists, scientists and public health professionals through excellence and innovation in research, education, and service.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Develop the department annual budget and provide recommendations for salary and salary adjustments for faculty and staff
  • Lead the recruitment and hiring of faculty and staff according to the needs of the School of Pharmacy, including the development of co-funded faculty positions
  • Provide supervision, mentorship and direction, and evaluation for the Department of Pharmaceutical and Administrative Sciences faculty and staff
  • Coordinate faculty goals and evaluation processes and provide support for faculty seeking promotion
  • Take an active role in the teaching of courses in the Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) Program and other departmental programs consistent with experience and interest
  • Conduct peer-reviewed scholarship at the level expected of a department chair position
  • Serve as an active mentor to faculty and students regarding scholarly activities, and actively support faculty grantsmanship involving both federal and foundation/industry grants
  • Serve as a primary liaison of the School of Pharmacy to the University Office of Research and Sponsored Programs
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of the mission, vision, core values, and strategic plan of the Department of Pharmaceutical and Administrative Sciences and School of Pharmacy
  • All other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills are required
  • Ability to effectively collaborate is required
  • An established record of scholarship and experience in academia or industry is preferred
  • Prior successful teaching experience in a university setting is preferred
  • Supportive of the mission and values of Concordia University Wisconsin/Ann Arbor and the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod (LCMS)

Education and Experience

  • Candidates from any pharmaceutical or administrative science discipline (i.e. pharmacology, pharmaceutics, social administrative sciences, etc.) will be considered. The school seeks candidates who possess a PhD or other related doctoral degree. The preferred candidate will have a solid record of:
    • Effective leadership in areas related to pharmaceutical and/or administrative science with preference for an academic setting
    • Established success in scholarly research including a strong record of publication and the successful attainment of federal and/or foundation/industry grants
    • Experience in mentoring faculty members' and the department's professional development
    • Experience with fiscal management
    • Excellence in teaching
    • Experience in launching a successful graduate program is preferred
