Compensation Overview

The annual base salary range provided for this position is a nationwide market range and represents a broad range of salaries for this role across the country. The actual salary for this position will be determined by a number of factors, including the scope, complexity and location of the role; the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; and other conditions of employment. As part of our comprehensive compensation and benefits program, employees are also eligible for performance-based cash incentive awards.

What Is the Opportunity?

Travelers’ Small Commercial Finance supports the $5.5b of Premiums for Select and Specialty small business insurance markets with over 700 thousand policies.

As a Director, Accounting you will be responsible for ensuring timely and accurate books and records for reporting to both internal and external parties while maintaining a strong control environment. You will coordinate and review financial processes, execute monthly and quarterly financial process, and be the technical accounting expert on the team.

What Will You Do?

  • Compile, review, and analyze complex financial data for variance analysis, reporting, and accuracy to interpret and identify trends. You will prepare, review, and approve complex financial activities including journal entries, payment requests, and reconciliations. 

  • Accountable for the overall development and creation of financial/business plan, budget, and forecasts. 

  • Engage with the team, business partners, and functional partners to develop consolidated storylines,  strong analyses and financial plans across the business unit. 

  • Conduct an insightful and complete review and approve internal management based financial reporting for complete and consistent results within corporate policies and standards.  

  • Conduct an insightful and complete review for external financial statements which may include GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles), SEC and STAT (Statutory Accounting Principles). 

  • Develop, perform, and certify financial controls across the financial close process in accordance with Sarbanes-Oxley requirements. 

  • Review complex documentation to support internal and external audits with heavy interaction with internal and external auditors. 

  • Monitor and maintain compliance with various financial external regulatory requirements and internal accounting policies. 

  • Lead projects that analyze and implement complex business and financial regulatory changes relating to financial reporting, such as reorganizations, new product launch requirements, mergers and acquisitions, etc.
