Royal Caribbean Group’s Safety, Security & Environment has an exciting career opportunity for a full time Lead, Environmental Regulation Compliance reporting to the Manager, Environmental Regulation &Sustainability

 

Position Summary:

This role involves serving as a Lead for Environmental Regulatory Compliance to include facilitating the implementation of the environmental compliance program and policy for the vessels within RCG’s fleet.  As a part of this role, to ensure the vessels have the necessary information and guidance to meet the requirements of international (e.g., MARPOL); national (Port State and Flag State); regional / local (e.g., ECAs, special areas, ports, etc.) and internal policy. In particular, this person will be knowledgeable about all areas of maritime environmental compliance as they apply to cruise ships and their environmental operations relating to: ship emissions, waste, water and waste water (ballast, grey, black). This includes having expertise in the on board environmental systems associated with meeting environmental criteria (e.g., sewage treatment plants, ballast treatment systems, etc.). This role requires collaborating with industry groups and regulatory agencies to anticipate regulatory changes and ensure that necessary revisions of existing policies occur. The Lead serves as a primary contact point regarding upcoming regulatory matters with Marine Operations, Global Marine Technical Services, New Build, and within the Environmental Stewardship Department. The Lead will assist with the development of company strategy related to these regulations and engage key stakeholders to ensure new and emerging regulations are attainable while minimizing the impact of these regulations on RCL operations and finances. This position must also have the experience and skills for appropriately addressing items with and reporting to Classification Societies and Flag State personnel. The Lead will work with both shipboard and shore side personnel on environmental compliance matters and continuous improvement.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Works with Manager, Environmental Regulatory Compliance and Sustainability to confirm that Royal Caribbean Group’s environmental policies applicable to shoreside and shipboard operations are in compliance with all applicable national and international regulations.
  • Oversees the Corporate-wide Environmental Regulatory strategy including direct interface with the various ships in the RCL fleet.  In particular, serves as the Company expert with regard to the detailed requirements of international, national and local regulations and how those requirements affect shipboard operational activities as outlined in the Corporate Environmental Policies / Procedures while maintaining overall knowledge of various maritime regulatory requirements,
  • Serves as Environmental Stewardship’s Regulatory Expert for international, national and local laws and regulations and onboard environmental systems designed to reduce the environmental impact of emissions, waste, and wastewater
  • Serves as primary interface to Shipboard Officers, Shore side Marine Operations and Global Marine Technical Services for addressing new or existing environmental compliance requirements or challenges.  Where necessary, sets or revises technical approaches in conjunction with the various members of the Environmental Stewardship staff and relevant stakeholders.
  • Interfaces with the Fleets’ Environmental Officers, as necessary, in order to maintain technical oversight of activities and to monitor fleet compliance with Company and regulatory compliance criteria.
