Schedule: Monday – Friday 10am – 2pm weekends and nights as needed for masses and gatherings with the deft community

Summary: The Director of Deaf Ministry coordinates Catholic Ministry for deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals in the Archdiocese of San Antonio. The Director facilitates the participation of deaf individuals and their families into the Catholic community.
Position Responsibilities:
- *Facilitates the participation and inclusion of deaf individuals and their families into the Catholic community and parish life
- *Manages strategic plan for Deaf Ministry
- *Connects the Deaf Community to the Archdiocese by offering translation of documents and message to American Sign Language (ASL), advocating for/representing the Deaf Community in the Dept. of Pastoral Ministries, and offering services to support needs of the Deaf Community
- Develops and provides ongoing training for liturgical ministers and interpreters
- *Leads communication efforts for promotion and engagement of services for Deaf Community and ongoing ministry engagement
- *Maintains good relationships with interpreters and stays up to date with changes in rates or practices in the interpreting profession
- *Manages schedule of interpreting services through contract interpreters for Masses and special liturgies and utilizes interpreting agencies as needed. Processes interpreting service invoices
- Collaborates with Pastoral Care Chaplain to meet direct language needs of Deaf Community.
- Coordinates opportunities for spiritual enrichment such as Deaf retreats and days of reflection
- Organizes liturgies for the Deaf with the bishops
- *Serves as a resource for all parish needs concerning Deaf individuals
- Collaborates with Deaf home parish Deaf Community leadership
- Stays up to date on resources from and relationships with the National Catholic Office for the Deaf (NCOD)
- Creates and manages ministry budget
- *Provides for the sacramental care of deaf persons in the archdiocese through making available interpreted Masses and other sacramental or liturgical services.
- Provides oversight for seminarians assigned to Deaf Ministry.
- Maintains relationship with Vocations Office.
- Offers reports and updates on ministry engagement, utilization of services, and other pertinent metrics or outcomes on a regular basis to the Director for Pastoral Care.
- Adheres to safety training and protocols on a daily basis, and takes precautionary measure to ensure the safety and well-being of self, others.
- Responsible for protecting the confidentiality of any information or material obtained in the service with the organization to include but not limited to client names and information, services rendered to clients, donors names and gifts, internal and external investigations or results of any investigations, and financial information.
- Adherence to the Code of Conduct and the Faith and Moral Policy is mandatory.

Requirements
Minimum Qualifications:
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Pastoral Ministry and Theology/Religious Studies.
Experience
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in Sign language interpreting, Project Management or Non-Profit with at least 2 years of experience in strategic planning.
- Diocesan Pastoral Center or parish experience is preferred.
- Roman Catholic in good standing with the Church preferred
License Credentials
- State or Nationally Certified Sign Language Interpreter
- Reliable transportation
- Valid driver license
- Valid vehicle insurance
Minimum Knowledge and Skills:
- Excellent communication skills, including writing, proof reading and speaking.
- Is knowledgeable about Deaf Culture and is involved with the Deaf Community.
