Research Engineer in Mechanical engineering for Electrical steel Processes

Comprising 1,650 researchers spread across 14 Research Centres around the world, our Global R&D team aims to continuously improve the quality of steel and its manufacturing processes. This involves investigating and developing disruptive technologies, reducing the carbon footprint of steel, and optimizing costs while maintaining uncompromising quality. The team's strong multicultural diversity, with over 30 nationalities, offers international experience and makes it possible to meet global needs.

You will be based at the Maizières Process research center, in a multicultural cluster of 35 researchers organized into three teams, working on the development and deployment of process solutions for ArcelorMittal.

You will join the Electrical & Packaging Lines Processes team, which works on innovative solutions to improve the quality of hot and cold-rolled products before delivery to the customer, and to support the development of new steel grades for different applications. Business trips are part of the R&D team's mission to visit different partners or ArcelorMittal facilities around the world and experience different working cultures.

Your role

You will be responsible for developing knowledge of the mechanical and electrical processes involved in the manufacture of electrical steel (including the cold rolling process), making extensive use of the R&D laboratory's pilots and models. Indeed, you will contribute to the improvement of R&D tools for a better representation of real industrial processes, ultimately to adapt and transfer the solutions developed to all ArcelorMittal electrical steel plants. You will be actively involved in ArcelorMittal's digital transformation, which strongly contributes to a better sustainability and reliability of ArcelorMittal's production lines.

Immediately, you will be involved in the following activities:

• Lead industrialization of new process technologies for electrical steelmaking
• Lead laboratory trials and contribute to R&D models development to optimize ArcelorMittal's process for improved electrical steel processes
• Lead technical assistance to improve process conditions in existing ArcelorMittal lines (capacity, reliability, durability) based on laboratory and industrial tests, the use of R&D models and process analyses for different ArcelorMittal sites, in a global scope
• Support new product developments

Your profile

• You hold a Masters' degree in Mechanical and/or Electrical Engineering. A PhD would be considered as an advantage.
• Experience in Mecanical and electrical engineering would be a plus.
• You demonstrate knowledge in Solid Mechanics and Electrical engineering.
• Basics on process engineering.
• You have good programming skills (Python, C++, Fortran …).
• You have experience in metallurgy or forming processes.
• You are advanced level in English and French
• Advanced communication and excellent social skills when working on a project with a multi-cultural environment are mandatory.
• You are willing to travel worldwide.
• You are curious, results oriented and innovative.
