Purpose/Introduction

This position provides effective technical, leadership, management and communication skills in a Mechanical Engineering Support role for the Polyethylene processes at the Pasadena Plastics Complex. Provides leadership and subject matter expertise to assist with the development and management of expense and minor capital projects. Plans, prioritizes, coordinates and aligns the work group activities to ensure that effective mechanical engineering services are delivered.  These services may include Operations support, troubleshooting, capital and expense project support, data and engineering analysis, and other plant and company initiatives.  Lead and direct the activities of 3 to 4 contract field support mechanical and IEC engineers, summer interns and new GRADs.  Responsibilities for personnel activities including: fair and consistent administration of Plant and Company policies; training and development of staff while maintaining work group expertise; performance appraisals; mentoring and coaching.

 

This position provides routine mechanical engineering and daily technical support for operations and maintenance activities at Pasadena Plastics Complex.

Responsibilities

  • Provides mechanical engineering subject matter expertise to assist with the development and management of expense and minor capital projects
  •  Drives continuous improvement efforts and other initiatives
  • Provides daily troubleshooting assistance, consultation and engineering support to operations and maintenance personnel as it relates to equipment performance and reliability. Equipment includes, pumps, blowers, pressure relief devices, valves, etc.
  • Assists with management and start up assistance as required for small projects (including MOC, HAZOP)
  • Provides assistance to operations, maintenance, environmental, safety, and plant management in identifying, prioritizing and executing projects
  • Participates in the process safety management process by completing pre-startup safety reviews, process hazard analysis, and other technical processes
  • Provides technical support to the Leak Detection and Repair (LDAR) team
  • Execute small expense projects and maintenance tasks during turnarounds

Required Qualifications

  • BS Degree in Engineering with a minimum of 5 years of experience in a manufacturing facility
  • Demonstrated broad level of technical competence and ability to successfully execute projects
  • Possesses interpersonal skills necessary to gain alignment and resolve conflicts within cross-discipline work groups.
  • Self-starter with above average presentation, planning, communications, interpersonal, leadership and organizational skills.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • BS Degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a Petrochemical facility
  • Previous supervisory experience
  • Turnaround experience
