Job Description
SNV is seeking an enthusiastic, hands on and eager to learn Global Accounting Advisor with a sharp eye for details, thorough, self-organised, able to prioritise and with strong communication skills in multi-cultural settings.
For this role you need to be eligible to work in the Netherlands. SNV cannot sponsor for a work visa.
As Global Accounting Advisor, you will be part of the global accounting team (approx. 9-10 FTEs), finance department, located in The Hague, the Netherlands. The global accounting team is responsible for leading, developing, implementing, monitoring and driving continuous improvements to SNV’s financial accounting, administration and reporting. Therefore, the team maintains financial procedures, processes, and instructions ensuring the accounting (project and financial) is compliant with the donor, regulatory and SNV requirements and producing integer, transparent, complete and accurate financial data. This includes the processes for financial accounting in SNV’s ERP system {SAP Business by Design (SBD)} in compliance with the Dutch General Accounting Principles, the chart of accounts, the accounting processes relating to purchase -to-pay (P2P), order-to-cash (OtC), record-to-report (RtR) processes.
As Global Accounting Advisor you will be responsible for the financial processes in the SNV ERP system, SBD. You will consider the financial requirements and ICT standards and requirements in order to support SNV with relevant financial solutions making the financial processes more efficient. As an SBD key user you will be a project team member representing the finance team on SNV ERP systems’ implementation/improvement projects. This entails translating financial needs into project requirements, suggesting and discussing possibilities and alternatives with relevant stakeholders. This key user role accounts max. 30% of the time.
The global accounting team guides, instructs, reviews and coaches the country teams in periodic closings of their financial accounting records, financial checks and balances, extensive closes and year-end close. The team supports country finance and project teams with the implementation and execution of standardised financial accounting activities, improvement of execution of standard processes and improvement of data integrity and financial reporting. Global accounting team supports the assigned (4-5) countries on issues relating to project audits, minimising ineligible costs.
The global accounting team drives capacity building of country finance teams by trainings, support, review, feedback, etc. The team identifies and proposes solutions to solve (potential) risks as well as ensures learning and feedback on relevant issues throughout the accounting cycle and across the organisation with a view to continuous improvement.
The global accounting team is responsible for the consolidated annual accounts of SNV. The global accounting team is responsible as well for the global teams’ accounting and financial administration. This includes the financial administration of projects that are run through Netherlands office, the salary financial administration of international employees, hypo tax processes and NL taxes.
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain financial accounting guidelines and instructions (financial month end close, extensive close, year end close, etc) and accompanying guidance and tools to ensure compliant accounting practices across the organisation.
- Provide advice and support to country finance teams on financial accounting activities, (project) accounting and financial administration and, if needed, can support country finance teams on financial performance of the country.
- Review global and country financial balances and take supporting actions where needed. Carry out balance sheet clearing, data quality assessments and improvement initiatives.
- Prepare and analyse financial data that provide accurate and timely financial reports required. This includes carrying out monthly, extensive and year-end close assessments and performing completeness check for all transactions and reconciliations if needed. Follow up with the Country Finance Managers the findings or outstanding items during such reviews.
- Act as an SBD key user for global finance team. Follow up requests and accounting issues of global teams and countries in cooperation with ICT. Translate financial processes into instructions/procedures.
