Who We Are

Mission Technologies, a Division of HII is seeking a Senior Database Engineer to support Modeling, Simulation and Training at the Joint Integrated Test and Training Center – Nellis (JITTC-N), Nellis AFB, NV.  The individual’s primary responsibility will center on enhancing existing data storage capacity, writing new support programs/scripts/queries, and troubleshooting databases to ensure optimal performance within JSE at the JITTC-N. 

What Will You Do

Maintain continuous operation of multi-data storages to ensure the Joint Simulation Environment (JSE) is operating at optimal performance levels.  The data storages include SQL databases, various terrain databases, etc. Duties will include, but are not limited to: 

  • Monitoring databases and related systems to ensure optimized performance. 
  • Assisting development teams in designing new database programs that meet the organization’s data storage needs. 
  • Writing new support programs, scripts, queries to increase data storage capacity. 
  • Generating/reviewing database and user reports, as well as system information. 
  • Performing debugging procedures on database scripts and programs, as well as resolving conflicts. 
  • Adhere to best practices in securely storing, backing up, and archiving data. 
  • Documenting processes related to database design, configuration and performance. 
  • Adhere to and enforce information security best practices and procedures, particularly when working with multi-level secure environments. 
  • Maintain vigilance to protect sensitive systems and data across classified enclaves. 

What You Must Have

  • 9 years relevant experience with Bachelors in related field; 7 years relevant experience with Masters in related field; 4 years relevant experience with PhD or Juris Doctorate in related field; or High School Diploma or equivalent and 13 years relevant experience.
  • Ability to create and maintain data logging procedures and reports in order to identify issues and submit deficiency reports (DRs) to relevant SMEs to find and resolve required solutions and future requirements. 
  • Must have had an Active DoD Top Secret/SCI security clearance within the last 24 months. 
  • Strong troubleshooting skills in both hardware and software contexts, including integration with diverse display solutions. 
  • Demonstrated knowledge of network administration principles as they apply to simulator systems. 
  • Awareness of and adherence to information security best practices. 
  • Proficiency in performing configuration management and collaborating with other configuration managers. 
  • Detail-oriented and capable of managing complex systems in a high-stakes environment. 
  • Demonstrated ability to write processes for simulator technicians and engineers. 
  • Strong oral and written communication and organizational skills to produce and maintain technical documents and procedures. 
  • Must be able to work in a team environment. 
  • Must be a US citizen. 

Bonus Points For...

  • Current and active DoD Top Secret with SCI security clearance.  
  • Experience in software design, test and implementation within DoD flight simulators. 
  • Experience contributing to the system design or architecture of new and current systems. 
  • Experience with Agile software practices. 
  • Experience supporting Special Access Program (SAP) efforts. 
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills. 
  • BS in Computer Science or Computer Engineering. Degrees in Engineering, Math, and Physics may qualify with at least 1 year of C++ and/or Python experience
