Overview. The U.S. Global Change Research Program’s (USGCRP) National Coordination Office (NCO) seeks to hire a professional with established experience in the development, delivery, and/or coordination of climate services. Primary responsibilities include providing expert guidance and support to USGCRP’s interagency groups developing, coordinating and delivering domestic and international climate services. This work includes assisting in the development and implementation of interagency efforts to translate research into tools, resources, and trainings to assist Federal and non-federal entities to make climate-informed decisions.

The USGCRP coordinates and integrates global change research and supporting activities conducted by 15 Federal Agencies and Departments. It is overseen by the Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP) of the Executive Office of the President, and by representatives from the 15 agencies. The day-to-day activities and operations of the USGCRP are facilitated by the USGCRP NCO, which is responsible for promoting interagency coordination and integration of Federal climate and global change research programs and facilitating international cooperation.

Key Responsibilities for the Successful Candidate
This position will work both independently and closely with USGCRP leadership to provide facilitation and interagency coordination to support climate services projects undertaken by USGCRP. This includes fostering communication about, and coordination among, agency climate service projects and activities. Tasks include:

• Provide guidance and support to help coordinate USGCRP Climate Services interagency bodies. This will include facilitating interagency bodies in the identification, prioritization, and implementation of climate services activities.

• Provide technical expertise in the development of an easily accessible and navigable network of Federal climate services resources. This will include supporting current USGCRP climate services activities, such as developing and maintaining a catalog of federal climate services.

• Identify and design, in collaboration with USGCRP leadership, engagement opportunities to understand the climate services needs of federal and non-federal entities and utilize such engagements to inform and improve federal climate services activities and products.

• Support coordination of climate service-focused modeling, data products, and information provision efforts such as the Climate Resilience Information System (CRIS), Climate Mapping for Resilience and Adaptation (CMRA) portal, NCA Atlas, and similar projects and interagency climate services-focused portal development.

• Other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience Requirements: 

• Bachelor's Degree AND 5 years+ OR Master’s degree AND 4 years+ of full-time professional work experience in applied global change science or policy, adaptation or decision science, or other closely related topics.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Relevant experience and knowledge of climate services development and/or delivery.

• Strong facilitation skills, with ability to manage multiple priorities at a given time while interacting with multidisciplinary teams to develop, advance, and achieve project goals.

• Experience working with federal agencies preferred and an understanding of the federal and non-federal landscape of climate services.

• Ability to think creatively and provide innovative solutions and thought leadership to navigate bureaucratic and collaboration challenges.

• Strong communication skills, with comfort speaking and writing with lucidity on both technical and non-technical topics.

• Strong team orientation with a focus on collaboration.

• Strong project management experience.

• Strong organizational and writing skills, time management skills, and superior attention to detail.
