Salary
The salary is commensurate with education and experience, with the minimum salary beginning at $85,000.
Job Summary/Basic Function
The James E. Walker Library at Middle Tennessee State University invites applicants for a 12-month, full-time, tenure-track faculty position (#401005) as Chair of Collection Development and Management. Applicants must qualify for appointment at the rank of associate professor or professor. Expedited tenure will be considered at the time of appointment. The start date for the position can be negotiated.

The Collection Development and Management chair reports directly to the library dean and serves on the library leadership team. The chair leads the library’s Collection Development and Management (CDM) department, which includes acquisitions, cataloging, continuing resources, special collections, binding/book repair, web and discovery services, library systems, collections assessment, and the collections budget. The department comprises ten faculty librarians and eleven staff members. The chair has faculty and administrative responsibilities and is a member of the university’s chair council.
The chair leads the department's daily work while also developing long-term departmental goals that strategically align with library and university priorities. The chair provides oversight of the $4 million collections budget and collaborates with library faculty and staff to implement collection strategies that support the curricular and research needs of the campus. The chair directly supervises two staff members and evaluates the performance of department faculty in teaching, research, and service. The chair is expected to effectively work in a team environment and strive to create a respectful and inclusive workplace.
Required Education
A master’s degree from an ALA-accredited program is required.
Required Related Experience
Applicants must have five (5) years of experience in a professional (post-MLS) position with at least three (3) years of supervisory experience of full-time personnel.
