Job Summary:

SpeechCom Inc. is hiring a full-time CA Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) to serve a school district in Paramount, CA for the 2024/2025 school year.

Details

  • Full-time
  • 8 hours per day
  • 5 days per week for the full school year
  • Caseload information may vary
  • Must be able to perform a range of duties that include, but are not limited to: perform hearing/vision screenings, administer insulin, monitor SpO2, operate oxygen concentration, provide Tube Feeding (TF), suction of excess secretion (if needed for student care)
  • Must pass LiveScan
  • New TB Test to be completed

The Licensed Practical and Licensed Vocational Nurse will provide specialized physical health care services to children as needed. Services can include but are not limited to gastric tube feeding, Tracheotomy care, ventilators, toileting/diaper changing, etc., based on each individual child's need. Duties will be within the regular school year. He or she may work under the supervision of a Registered Nurse.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • None.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Administers medications or starts intravenous fluids, noting times and amounts on students’ charts.
  • Observes students, charting and reporting changes in conditions such as adverse reactions to medication or treatment and takes necessary actions.
  • Answers students’ concerns and determines how to assist them.
  • Measures and records students’ vital signs such as height, weight, temperature, blood pressure, pulse, and respiration if part of duties/as necessary.
  • Works as part of the district’s healthcare team to assess student needs, plans and modifies care, and implements interventions.
  • Evaluates nursing intervention outcomes, conferring with other healthcare team members.
  • Records food and fluid intake and output.

Required Skills/Abilities: 

  • General knowledge of nursing and health care terminology.
  • Excellent patient care skills.

Education and Experience:

  • Postsecondary certificate from vocational school or Associate’s degree in nursing required.
  • Current CA state-issued licensure required

Physical Requirements: 

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • May require prolonged periods of standing, moving and bending.
  • Must be able to lift up to 75 pounds at times.
