Our Bay Area office is conveniently located near Lake Merritt in Oakland in a 9-story office building. Our office space is 3 blocks from a BART station, and close to a wide variety of restaurants and breweries, the lake itself, and all that downtown Oakland has to offer. Job Description
We are seeking an entrepreneurial, dynamic, innovative, and quality-oriented Structural Discipline Manager with at least 12 years of experience to manage the structural department within our multi-disciplined engineering office. You must be able to win work and then manage the projects, using current staff that you can add to as the backlog grows. You must have excellent written and verbal communication skills along with a high-level ability to manage multiple clients and multiple projects at one time. This could be the right opportunity for a seasoned structural engineer who has developed a network of clients.
We are looking for a leader who works effectively with all personality types, is interested in developing close relationships with our great clients, and who desires to grow professionally and stay involved in the activities and exciting trends in the industry. The position will involve a mix of technical design and consulting, construction support, and new project scoping and proposal writing. We work in tight-knit teams that support each other and are managed with a healthy work-life balance that is focused on development and caring for the whole person.
The position is hybrid where the staff are in-person three days a week (minimum) and have the option to work remotely two days a week. The optional remote workdays of the week are currently Thursday and Friday. These guidelines are reassessed periodically.
In this Role You Will:
- Manage day-to-day contacts with internal and external clients while utilizing experience and technology to meet expectations
- Perform research and document findings for internal and external distribution
- Utilize project management skills for managing internal projects as well as external client needs
- Provide peer reviews of colleagues’ work product
- Attend and participate in local and national professional organizations, such as SEAONC and NCSEA
Qualifications
- B.S. degree in Civil or Structural engineering
- M.S. degree in Structural Engineering
- Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE)
- Licensed California Structural Engineer (SE)
- 12 or more years of experience in the structural design of buildings or similar structures
- Experience with computer software programs and analysis systems (such as Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, Revit, ETABS, RISA, etc.)
- Knowledge and experience with the International Building Code (IBC) and US design standards
- Experience with and ability to maintain working relationships with clients
- Experience as a project manager
- Excellent leadership, supervisory, and writing and verbal communication skills
- Be comfortable consulting with architects
- Ability to work as part of a multi-discipline design team
- Some experience with DSA and HCAI projects preferred
Compensation and Benefits
- Paid overtime at 1.0 times hourly rate
- Competitive end of year discretionary bonus based on company/team/personal performance

Expected annual salary of $130,000 - $160,000
