Job Description:

Position: Western Colorado University invites applications for the full-time position of Head Women’s Basketball Coach.  Western’s NCAA division II program competes in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. The Head Coach reports to the Director of Athletics and is supported by 1 full time assistant coach and 1-2 part time assistant coaches.

Responsibilities:  The Head Women’s Basketball Coach is responsible for providing leadership, planning, organizing and administering all aspects of the Western’s Women’s Basketball program. The incumbent will be responsible for fostering and supporting student-athlete welfare, recruiting highly qualified student-athletes, practice scheduling and competitions, coaching athletes in practice and competition, maintaining a strong academic environment, supervising coaching staff, maintaining budget, conducting and managing all facets of camps, cultivating alumni, direct involvement working with program-specific fundraising as well as participation in Athletic Department fundraising.  Supervise the Assistant Women’s Basketball Coach. Limited other duties may be assigned. 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required.   
  • At least one year of collegiate basketball coaching experience
  • Valid driver’s license.  
  • Ability to travel, including domestic/international air travel, and availability to work days/nights/weekends/holidays. 
  • Knowledge of NCAA Division II Basketball practices and regulations.
  • Proven administrative, organizational and recruiting skills
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a diverse faculty, staff, and student-athletes and the general student body. 
  • Ability to establish good rapport and relationships with players, administrators, staff, alumni and the general public

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree.  
  • Three years collegiate basketball coaching experience.  
  • CPR Certified
  • First Responder Certified
  • NCAA II recruiting certified

Compensation: Salary range of $82,000-$87,000 This position is FLSA exempt.  Western offers an excellent benefits package including shared premiums for a comprehensive health insurance plan, dental insurance, retirement plan, life insurance, and other insurance options. After one year of employment, Western provides free tuition for dependents enrolled full time in undergraduate programs for up to four years.
