About the role

Overview

Responsible for front and back-office procedures.  Also assists Physicians and Nurses with medical examination and urodynamic testing of patients. Responsible for performing Urodynamic Testing.

Responsibilities

  • Train and orient new medical assistants.

     

  • Assist physicians, providers and nurses as the medical assistant in the daily care of our patients.

     

  • Takes vital signs such as height, weight, temperature and blood pressure. May draw blood and give injections under the immediate supervision of a Physician, PA or NP.

  • Complete lab requisitions.

  • Chaperone and assist during minor surgeries, office procedures and diagnostic procedures.

  • Perform Urodynamic Testing.

  • Maintain clean, well-equipped exam rooms, clean and sterilize instruments.

  • Stock examination rooms and triage areas with medical supplies.

  • QA review of patient charts obtaining all pertinent documentation for new and established Urogynecology patients.

 

  • Access all applicable EMR systems in which OVMS OBGYN interacts with.

  • Obtain and write referrals when appropriately trained and directed and schedule outside appointments with specialists.

     

  • Obtain prior authorizations for medications when required.

     

  • Ensure that appropriate data (ie labs, medical records) are available prior to the patient’s appointment.

     

  • Obtain labs and clinical notes from the referring provider’s office.

  • Obtain all inpatient records and labs prior to the patient’s scheduled appointment.

  • Document all information in EPIC and check EPIC tasks daily.

 

  • Prepare education and surgical packets.

  • Takes the calls on the triage line at the Norfolk and Virginia Beach locations and respond promptly to the patient requests.

  • Enter charges in EPIC for nurse intake visits, injections or other procedures as assigned.

     

  • Review patient lab results, discuss abnormal findings with the physician or other provider and follow up with patient with treatment plan as necessary

     

  • Perform other duties as they are assigned, according to the individual departmental needs.

     

  • Travel between our other satellite offices may be required to meet the clinical needs.

 

Qualifications

Certification as a Medical Assistant such an RMA or CMA is required.

 Experience in women's health is preferred. 

Experience in a large multidisciplinary practice preferred.
