The Department of Psychiatry and the Behavioral Sciences at the Keck School of Medicine of USC is seeking a full-time board certified (preferred) or board eligible Adult Outpatient Psychiatrist to care for Keck Medicine of USC patients. We are seeking candidates to join a diverse and dynamic multidisciplinary team who are strongly committed to providing excellent, multiculturally competent, clinical treatment (including Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS), intra-nasal ketamine in addition to traditional Pharmacotherapeutic and Psychotherapeutic modalities) to Keck Medicine patients and training to psychiatry residents. We are seeking candidates who are reflective of our diverse adult population and who have strong clinical skills, are familiar with the duties associated with an outpatient mental health clinic within the Keck Medicine of USC medical system, and thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative, collegial, professional environment. 

This is a full-time clinical-educator faculty position with an academic appointment in the Department of Psychiatry and the Behavioral Sciences at the Keck School of Medicine of USC and clinical service assignment in Psychiatry and Behavioral Health Services clinic at Health Sciences Campus (PBHS@HSC). Description of PBHS at HSC

PBHS at HSC is an outpatient mental health clinic within the Keck Medicine of USC medical system and is comprised of a multidisciplinary team of clinical psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, marriage and family therapists, and case managers that provide mental health services to Keck Medicine patients.

Essential Functions:

  • Report to and work closely with the Medical Director of Psychiatric Services.
  • Provide direct outpatient psychiatric care including psychiatric evaluation, diagnosis, and medication treatment of mental disorders for Keck Medicine patients. This includes up to 32-35 hours per week of patient care.
  • Provide treatment using neuromodulation modalities, as indicated.
  • Facilitate higher level of care referrals and hospitalizations, when needed.  
  • Support medication treatment with brief supportive therapy and motivational interviewing when indicated, with the provider’s role and expertise primarily relating to the biological treatment of the student.  
  • Cover on-call emergencies, as assigned. This includes being available for urgent medication issues of patients on assigned workdays, and for your outpatient clinic patients.
    • Currently there are rotating Consultation and Liaison (CL) weekend on-call duties for psychiatrists. On-call duties are assigned based on clinical needs and distributed evenly amongst psychiatrists, based on FTE.
  • Attend weekly multidisciplinary faculty and staff meetings. 
  • Collaborate and consult with other mental health providers, especially related to high-risk patients, and with primary care medical providers who may also provide psychiatric medication management to patients.   
  • Participate in yearly merit review and performance evaluations, peer review, quality improvement activities and other unit, departmental, and division teams and committees.  
  • Provide supervision of psychiatry residents (PGY 2-4s).
  • Attend Psychiatry Department Grand Rounds, Social Justice Forums, and Department Matters meetings.
  • Position is a hybrid of telemedicine and in-person clinic.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be a State of California Licensed Physician and a board certified (preferred) or board eligible psychiatrist.
  • Experience in short term medication treatment, stabilization, and crisis intervention.
  • Multicultural competency in working with patients of color, patients from all economic classes, LGBTQ patients, and international patients.
  • Resilient, self-aware, and able to thrive in a fast paced, demanding environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with TMS, Ketamine, ECT, etc.
