Overview Assistant Professor – Nutritional Physiology and Metabolism Position Description The Department of Animal Sciences in the College of Agriculture at Auburn University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Nutritional Physiology and Metabolism. This is a 9-month appointment with responsibilities in research (60%) and teaching (40%). The anticipated start date is August 1, 2027. Responsibilities The successful candidate will develop an innovative and externally funded research and teaching program in nutritional physiology and metabolism of livestock species. The research program will focus on understanding how nutrients are digested, absorbed, and metabolized, and how these processes influence growth, efficiency, health, product quality, and sustainability in animal production systems. Areas of emphasis may include, but are not limited to, nutrient partitioning and metabolic regulation, microbiome-host interactions, precision nutrition and nutrient utilization efficiency, and metabolic responses to environmental and management stressors. The program is expected to lead and contribute to interdisciplinary, collaborative research efforts across Animal Sciences and related units. The candidate will be expected to establish a nationally recognized research program supported by extramural funding and to mentor graduate students. Teaching responsibilities will include undergraduate (e.g. ANSC 3400 – Animal Nutrition) and graduate courses in animal nutrition, metabolism, and physiology. The position will also contribute to curriculum development and high-impact experiences for students. The successful candidate will be responsible for communicating effectively with a variety of individuals and groups. Qualifications Qualifications Required Qualifications Ph.D. degree in animal science or a relevant field by the start date. Research emphasis on nutritional physiology and metabolism of animals, with a strong interest in livestock species. Demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching and mentoring undergraduate and graduate students. Ability to work collaboratively in multidisciplinary and cross-functional research teams. Eligibility to work in the United States at the time the appointment begins and to continue working legally for the term of employment. Desired Qualifications Postdoctoral training and/or relevant experience in academic, government, or industry research settings. A record of securing, or strong potential to secure, extramural funding from federal agencies, commodity groups, or industry partners.
