STREETS MAINTENANCE WORKER, SENIOR

Department: Public Works Class Code: Reports to: Streets Manager FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

GENERAL PURPOSE: Under general supervision, various road and street repairs are performed. This designation is distinguished from the Streets Maintenance Worker classification by greater work complexity.

 

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The following duties ARE NOT intended to serve as a comprehensive list of all duties performed by all employees in this classification, only a representative summary of the primary duties and responsibilities. Incumbent(s) may not be required to perform all duties listed and may be required to perform additional, position-specific duties.

• Performs routine road repairs and maintenance; performs pothole patching.
• Installs new drainage, culverts and ditches; ensures a proper grade on ditches and culverts for proper water flow.
• Repairs, replaces or installs street signs; logs daily activities into an automated records system.
• Purchases materials and equipment.
• Calculates materials for projects.
• Performs customer service calls to determine customer needs or concerns.
• Operates various motorized vehicles and equipment.
• Performs traffic control, flagging and signage set up.
• Performs snow and ice removal.
• Performs mowing and weed removal.
• Make repairs of vandalized areas.
• Operate machinery/equipment used in cemetery site opening and closing. Interment site work as assigned.
• Maintains the integrity, professionalism, values and goals of the Town by assuring that all rules and regulations are followed, and that accountability and public trust are preserved.
• Supports the relationship between the Town and the constituent population by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with residents, visitors and Town staff; enthusiastically promotes the Town’s goals and priorities in compliance with all policies and procedures.
• Performs related duties as required or assigned.

 

 

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Experience:

High school diploma or equivalent and two years of experience in street maintenance and repair or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Experience with heavy equipment including excavator, backhoe, dump truck, hydraulic auger, sod cutter, and tampers.

 

Required Licenses or Certifications:

Possession of a valid Class A or B Commercial Driver’s License with appropriate endorsements.

 

Required Knowledge of:

• Construction equipment.
• Road maintenance and repair methods and techniques.
• Equipment for safety practices.
• Personal computer and various software applications.

 

Required Ability to:

• Develop and maintain effective working relationships with Town staff, inspectors, vendors and the general public.
• Operate motorized vehicles and equipment.
• Calculate materials for projects.
• Use various power and hand tools.
• Operate a personal computer and various software applications.
• Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

 

Physical Demands / Work Environment:

• Work is performed primarily in an outdoor work environment. May be required to perform a full range of motion with lifting and/or carrying supplies, materials, equipment and/or items weighing up to 100 pounds. May be exposed to moving traffic. May be exposed to heavy equipment and machinery. May be exposed to extreme weather conditions. May be exposed to hazardous chemicals. May be exposed to infectious diseases. May be required to work in trenches. May be required to climb ladders.
