Proskauer is seeking a highly motivated and creative thinker with experience in business development to join our New York office. The Associate Director of Business Development – Industry and M&A will collaborate with the lawyers to plan, develop and implement business development and marketing strategies focused on the firm’s key industries such as sports, media and entertainment and tech as well as its Private Equity and M&A practice, which serves those industries among others. In addition, they will work to expand existing client relationships and generate new work. This role will report to the Chief Marketing and Business Development Officer. 

  • Serve as an advisor on specific strategic initiatives and high value opportunities targeting industries where we have market strength and opportunity, along with the M&A and private equity practices. 
  • Support the specific Proskauer industry groups of Hospitality, Technology, Media & Entertainment, Real Estate and Sports, in the development of business and marketing plans including short- and long-term objectives for sector growth with measurable ROI and KPIs.
  • Manage and develop a Business Development Manager while overseeing the hiring, onboarding, and development of a coordinator, both of whom will support the delivery of effective marketing tactics focused on revenue generation, including data collection and reporting, event management, client relationship management and new business. More specifically:
    • Development of core messaging and brand positioning for practice and industry offerings (including our value propositions, top client/matters, proof points etc.).
    • Create and maintain off-the-shelf marketing collateral that showcase practice and industry capabilities.
    • Create, plan and execute events that support build the brand and the goals of the practices and industries. Identify sponsorship opportunities at industry conferences and events that support the goals. 
    • Develop sector-driven thought leadership campaigns and work with our communications team to identify external communication strategies, such as pitching industry publications for trend pieces and source development.
    • Support our lawyers to develop compelling new business pitches; coach attorneys through the new business process.
  • Benchmark our activities against those of our competitors
  • Manage budgets and track ROI for each industry practice
  • Bachelor’s Degree required
  • 10-15 years of experience in a Professional Services environment 
  • Practical experience in professional business development, marketing or communications function is required
  • Keen interest and passion for the industries and practices in which you will be working 
  • A high degree of drive and personal initiative to raise the Firm’s profile and generate business
  • Highly collaborative
  • Results driven 
  • Strong strategic business development skillset with knowledge of core marketing principles
  • Robust project management skills 
  • Ability to maintain professional composure and confidentiality in a fast-paced, high-pressure and multi-authority environment
  • Capability to work with a team of attorneys, staff and all levels of management
  • Excellent written communication, presentation, analytic and research skills

 

This position will require physical presence in Proskauer’s offices on a regular basis (at least 3x per week, or more, if it becomes the policy of the Firm). The anticipated compensation range for this position is $200,000 - $270,000. The actual salary offered will be based on a number of factors including but not limited to the qualifications of the applicant, years of relevant experience, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and if applicable, the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job.
