AmeriCorps VISTA

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: The AmeriCorps VISTA Assistant Director is responsible for managing all VISTA grant components in collaboration with Family & Community Services programs and subsite agencies. This position ensures effective recruitment and placement of VISTA members whose service addresses poverty alleviating and community strengthening while aligning with the objectives, policies, and procedures of the AmeriCorps Programs. This is an exempt position.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Local RFP Coordination:
1. Develops and manages local competitive Request for Projects (RFP) AmeriCorps Service Project Application process.
2. Maintains and coordinates local AmeriCorps Advisory Council who scores service project applications and makes service project approval recommendations.
3. Makes sub-grants to appropriate program partners who demonstrate proven success, innovation, and capacity for achieving desired program results.
AmeriCorps Member Recruitment, Selection, Placement and Development:
1. Develop AmeriCorps member recruitment materials and manage the application process.
2. Oversees the development of the annual AmeriCorps member training curriculum.
3. Supports staff in the development and facilitation of extensive AmeriCorps member pre-service orientation and bimonthly Team Meetings
4. Develop a sense of teamwork among AmeriCorps staff and Members.
5. Provides quality supervision to AmeriCorps staff and subsites who, in turn, ensures that AmeriCorps members are getting quality supervision
Sponsor Agency/School Coordination:
1. Oversees the development of AmeriCorps orientations and ongoing training.
2. Monitors the implementation of all AmeriCorps service projects and reviews subsite reports.
Program Evaluation
1. Develop an annual evaluation plan congruent with the objectives outlined in the AmeriCorps grant requirements.
2. Develop and monitor systems for tracking outcomes and impacts of program activities.
3. Monitors program activities, ensuring contract compliance.
4. Coordinates the annual satisfactory and feedback survey process
Public Relations:
1. Develop PR strategies for highlighting AmeriCorps program success, and recruiting AmeriCorps members and sponsor agencies.
2. Represent AmeriCorps and Family & Community Services, Inc. at professional conferences.
3. Develop and expand partnerships with community organizations, schools, government agencies, businesses, and community members.
4. Use the personal vehicle to perform agency business.
Budget Management:
1. Develop program and grant budgets, based on funder guidelines in support of meeting program goals and outcomes.
2. Manages the purchase of services by approving staff expenditure requests, reimbursing mileage, etc. to support program goals.
3. Monitor the various budgets monthly and submit budget modifications to funders if necessary.
4. Develop annual F&CS program budgets, based on grant budgets.
Grant/Report Writing:
1. Writes quality competitive grants to ensure program continuation.
2. Responsible for required reporting to stakeholders where applicable.
3. Assesses critical unmet community needs by researching local, state, and national needs assessments, and networking with local experts, councils, boards, and service providers.
4. Seeks out additional grant opportunities.
5. Develop additional funding strategies to help ensure program sustainability.

6. Experience creating effective outcome/impact evaluation strategies.
7. Experience with Windows, Word, Excel, Outlook, Internet and web page usage/updating, social networking and other technologies that can be used to carry out the AmeriCorps mission.
8. Excellent oral and written communication skills.
9. Ability to manage multiple priorities effectively, organize and prioritize work plans, and maintain accurate records.
10. Ability to effectively delegate responsibility.
11. Experience in conflict resolution and mediation.
