Manager I, Engineering - RUM Data Insights
DatadogAbout the role
We’re looking for a hands-on engineering manager to lead the creation of a new team within the Real User Monitoring (RUM) backend organization. This team will focus on extracting higher-level insights from our existing data stream, driving forward Datadog’s ability to deliver intelligent, actionable recommendations to our users. You will shape the team’s vision, build the initial foundations, and drive collaboration with the ingestion and storage/querying teams. This role offers a unique opportunity to influence the next generation of RUM capabilities, including at some point AI-powered insights.
At Datadog, we place value in our office culture - the relationships and collaboration it builds and the creativity it brings to the table. We operate as a hybrid workplace to ensure our Datadogs can create a work-life harmony that best fits them.
What You’ll Do:
- Lead a new engineering team focused on aggregating and interpreting RUM data for insight generation.
- Hands-on development of the stateful streaming system providing concrete, customer-facing suggestions for frontend improvements. This involves mainly Java, Kafka, S3 technologies.
- Collaborate with product and engineering stakeholders to define the roadmap and prioritize projects.
- Align with other teams from RUM backend (the ingestion and storage/querying teams) as well as with other RUM teams (App and SDKs) to ensure smooth data flow and integration across the RUM platform and the RUM product.
- Organize and maintain the on-call rotation for the RUM backend in the US timezone, ensuring operational excellence and reliability.
Who You Are:
- You have a solid understanding of real-time data pipelines and experience working with distributed systems at scale.
- You are excited about building new teams and establishing technical vision from the ground up.
- You collaborate effectively across teams and disciplines, bringing clarity and direction to complex technical initiatives.
- You are passionate about delivering value to customers and making large volumes of data actionable.
- You care deeply about building inclusive, high-performing teams and supporting the growth of your engineers.
- Some familiarity with browser or mobile frontend development is a strong plus.
Datadog values people from all walks of life. We understand not everyone will meet all the above qualifications on day one. That's okay. If you’re passionate about technology and want to grow your skills, we encourage you to apply.
Benefits and Growth:
