About the role

Overview

The mission of the City of Boston Assessing Department is to accurately collect data, assess property at its full and fair cash value, and provide prompt and courteous service to the public. The Assessing Department is a leader in municipal valuation and seeks to maintain that status by attracting talented experience to our core staffing.

 

Reporting to the Director of Operations or other assigned supervisor, manages the day-to-day operations of the Tax Data Administration (TDA). Oversees the operations of the unit, including the review and assignment of work, the supervision and training of staff, and the coordination of workflow with other units.

 

Responsibilities

 

  • Supervise staff.
  • Oversee day-to-day operations of the TDA Unit.
  • Responsible for researching title issues, analyzing data, and making determinations and recommendations on how to proceed.
  • Review, evaluate, and develop procedures for the processing of a variety of ownership and parcel data, including sales, foreclosures, parcel re-configuration, and exemptions.
  • Oversee the management of the data and records generated.
  • Provide information to co-workers, other departments, and agencies, and respond to constituent inquiries.
  • Compile information, maintain records, and prepare correspondence, reports, and other documents.
  • Performs related duties as required.

Minimum Entrance Qualifications

 

 

  • At least five (5) years of professional experience in management analysis and customer service or related fields, of which two (2) years in a supervisory capacity are required.
  • A Bachelor’s Degree in business administration, public administration, preferred
  • Thorough knowledge of the functions of the Registry of Deeds, Land Court, Department of Revenue, and Probate Court preferred.
  • Experience in the management of Tax Title cases preferred.
  • Thorough knowledge of assessing practices, particularly in the areas of real estate laws and taxation, property ownership, and departmental standards and goals, is preferred.
  • Demonstrated leadership and management skills required.
  • Accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment and problem-solving as required by the job.
  • Professional oral and written communication skills and the ability to effectively interact with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to meet operational goals in the required timeframe preferred.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office, and Google Suite a plus.

 

BOSTON RESIDENCY REQUIRED

 

Terms:

Union/Salary Plan/Grade: SENA/MM1-7

Hours per week: 35
