Description
The Commodity Leader is positioned at the interface between Alstoms product / project teams and the industries and suppliers that supply core component technologies. The Senior Commodity Leader will develop and execute sourcing strategies, as well as recommend product innovations based on improving technology. The position requires an interest in market dynamics, negotiation and pricing, manufacturing processes, and risk mitigation.
The Commodity Leader will:
- Develop a nuanced understanding of the commodity landscape in order to forecast industry trends and gauge emerging competitive forces. Identify changes in buyer and supplier power within core materials markets and use industry dynamics to Alstom's advantage.
- Effectively work with suppliers to negotiate optimal terms for sourcing. Understand the trade-offs between cost, volume, and quality in order to strike agreements that meet Alstom's performance criteria and secure long term supply continuity.
- Collaborate across the global Alstom organization to ensure business objectives are met. This includes the ability to rapidly synthesize and communicate findings to senior leaders and to actively identify potential supply issues that can affect product / project strategy or deliverables.
- Optimize supply chain performance through cost and scenario analysis, and benchmarking. Develop an in-depth understanding of value-added manufacturing processes and costs, and market intelligence, and apply this knowledge to influence and drive Alstom's sourcing decisions.
- Drive a comprehensive strategy covering their portfolio to deliver lower costs, risk mitigation, higher quality parts the first time and secure delivery on time to the needs of the business.
- Assess and mitigate risks to the business. Manage global supply chain disruptions in real time.
Basic qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in a discipline related to Business, Engineering, or Mathematics or equivalent experience.
- Minimum 5 years combined experience in sourcing, purchasing, materials, supply chain, and inventory control related roles.
Desired Characteristics
- Experience with a multi-site or multi-business environment.
- Proven track record of leading sourcing, purchasing, inventory control, supply chain, and materials efforts
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Ability to effectively handle multiple and competing priorities.
- Strong computer skills
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills
- Ability to communicate effectively across all levels of the organizations internally and externally.
- Experience using lean principles & tools and a strong continuous improvement mindset.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with other functions.
- Advanced understanding of financial concepts (working capital, cash flow).
- Strong analytical skills with ability synthesize data and make recommendations.
