Job Summary
The Director of Strategic Initiatives and Project Management Office is responsible for supporting the development and execution of the overall initiative strategy for Stanford Health Care – Tri-Valley. The Director will provide strategic guidance including design and implementation of targeted improvement projects that support and advance critical strategic goals. The body of work will consist of leadership, direction, and support to the Executive Leadership Team for specific organization-wide and department-level strategic projects. The Director will partner closely with senior operational leaders to convene, facilitate and lead value stream efforts, providing necessary consultation and planning for ongoing management and improvement upon completion of the value stream improvement plan.
The Director will also provide leadership over the Project Management Office (PMO) including responsibility for standardizing processes and improving efficiency. Under the leadership of the Director, Strategic Initiatives, the PMO office will maintain project documentation, best practices, track metrics, and support executive team and organizational leaders to meet / exceed organizational goals. The Director will provide leadership direction and accountability to ensure all projects support the overall business objectives of the organization.
In addition to leadership over strategic initiatives and the PMO, the Director will be accountable for the development of service line strategies and execution of initiatives to promote designated non-destination service lines. Responsibilities include strategic development and goal setting in alignment with the broader SHC-VC vision for the planning, design and execution of cross organizational and/or complex strategic initiatives not limited to integration and business development.
Essential Functions

- Develop and maintain the SHC-VC strategic plan in conjunction with the Executive Leadership Team (ELT)
- Oversee operational execution of the strategic initiative framework
- Leads initiatives to achieve financial, operational, and quality goals
- Establish metrics and metric reporting to monitor strategic goal process
- Design and implement select high-impact process changes to advance department goals
- Participate as a member of the Leadership team in developing operating systems and standard work that support the strategic direction of Stanford Health Care Tri-Valley
- Identify process, technology, and organizational changes required due to emerging healthcare industry issues and trends
- Identify opportunities to standardize work across business units
- Identify opportunities and strategies for integrating culture and process with outside departments
- Develop strategies for leveraging technology to improve operational efficiency
- Assist in evaluating new and existing business vendors
- Serve as an expert resource for organizational standard work/ methodology and project management
- Provides leadership and shows initiative in development, implementation, and demonstration of new methods, procedures, and equipment and instruments
- Participates in hospital-wide activities
- Employee must perform all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the C-I-CARE Standards of the Hospital. C-I-CARE is the foundation of Stanford Health Care Tri-Valley patient-experience and represents a framework for patient-centered interactions
Job Qualifications
Education
- Baccalaureate degree required
- Master’s in Business or Health Administration (or related field) required
Experience
- Minimum 3 years of experience in healthcare
- Minimum 5 years of Leadership
License/Certification
- Certification in Program Management or Project Management required within two (2) years of hire
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of Lean or Six Sigma techniques
