About the role

American AgCredit, a leading agricultural finance institution committed to supporting those who feed, clothe, and fuel the world, is seeking to add a member of the Board of Directors with proven expertise in wholesale banking or Capital Markets.

Overview

American AgCredit provides a suite of financial products for farmers, ranchers, and agricultural businesses. Through our relationships with other lenders, we finance the largest transactions in the country, reaching over $1 billion. Our lending and financing capabilities allow us to offer a wide range of tailored solutions including agribusiness loans, loan servicing, and consultant services tailored to meet the needs of the borrowing entity; backed with confidence by a diverse portfolio both in geography and commodities across the United States.

Our board members are responsible for establishing, maintaining, and achieving long term goals, annual operating objectives, and meeting all statutory and regulatory requirements. Together, they ensure the proper management teams and systems are in place and functioning effectively. Through ongoing monitoring and oversight, our directors ensure American AgCredit fulfills its responsibility to our customers, employees, owners and stakeholders.

The American AgCredit Board of Directors work to ensure American AgCredit is a viable and sustainable Association for years to come.

Qualifications

As a member of our Board of Directors, this individual will contribute to leading the Association and rely heavily on their experience in the wholesale banking and/or Capital Markets space.

A successful candidate for this position has:

  • Proven ability to strategically advise on a comprehensive capital markets strategy in alignment with the Association’s overall strategic goals
  • Experience serving in an advisory role on potential mergers and acquisitions, including knowledge of financial due diligence and strategic fit
  • Expertise and knowledge of current and innovative financial mechanisms and ability to guide and advise on potential investment opportunities
  • Strong leadership background in financial services platforms and technology
  • Knowledge of risk management strategies, multi lender financing, raising funds, and treasury/money movement
  • Experience and ability to advise regarding market trends and competitive landscape to support the Association’s risk appetite
  • Demonstrated experience in a senior role within Capital Markets, former Chief Financial Officer or related field
  • Demonstrated courageousness in the boardroom and drives meaningful conversation to position the organization for growth

General Board Member Competencies

Directors must meet the qualifications established under the bylaws of the FCS institution. A director should understand complex financial statements and reports, basic credit principles, business cycles, management philosophies and sound business practice. Directors should exercise reasonable care and independent judgment in carrying out responsibilities. Directors must maintain confidentiality with regard to board and client matters and information.

Board of Directors serve five-year terms, and the annual time commitment is approximately fifty-five days including travel, meetings, education and training, and preparation time. Board honorariums are paid on a quarterly basis.
