As Lead for AI Security & Governance, you’ll drive our organization’s approach to responsible AI adoption, security assessment, and technology governance. This is a senior leadership role with significant authority to establish policies, make security decisions, and guide the organization’s AI tool strategy across all business units within Volaris.

You’ll serve as the primary authority on AI security assessments, vendor evaluations, and technology governance frameworks. You’ll have the autonomy to field requests from engineering teams, make binding security decisions, and establish enterprise-wide policies for AI tool adoption. This role requires someone who can operate independently with minimal oversight while collaborating effectively with legal counsel, executive leadership, and forward deployed teams.

You’ll be responsible for building and maintaining the strategic framework that balances innovation velocity with security requirements, ensuring our rapidly evolving AI-powered organization remains secure, compliant, and competitive. This isn’t about theoretical security — you’ll make real decisions that enable teams to leverage powerful AI technologies safely while delivering measurable business outcomes.

What You’ll Do

Strategic Leadership & Policy Development:

  • Establish and maintain enterprise-wide AI security governance frameworks and policies
  • Develop and enforce approved/disallowed application and tool lists with clear rationale and criteria
  • Create strategic roadmaps for AI tool adoption that balance innovation needs with security requirements
  • Lead cross-functional initiatives to integrate AI governance into existing business processes

Security Assessment & Risk Management:

  • Conduct comprehensive security assessments of AI systems, with authority to approve or reject tool adoption
  • Lead vendor security evaluations, including technical assessments and contractual review
  • Develop risk assessment methodologies specifically for AI/ML systems and emerging technologies
  • Establish security standards and compliance requirements for AI tool integration

Stakeholder Management & Consultation:

  • Serve as primary point of consultation for field teams on AI security and governance matters
  • Collaborate with legal counsel on security, privacy, and compliance implications of new technologies
  • Present security recommendations and decisions to executive leadership and board committees
  • Partner with engineering leadership to ensure security requirements are integrated into development processes

Guidance & Communication:

  • Publish authoritative guidance on responsible corporate usage of approved AI tools and systems
  • Develop training programs and documentation to support organization-wide AI governance
  • Communicate complex security concepts to both technical and business stakeholders
  • Establish metrics and reporting frameworks to track AI governance effectiveness

What You Bring

  • 8+ years of progressive experience in security governance, risk management, or compliance leadership roles
  • 3+ years of direct experience with AI/ML security, governance frameworks, or emerging technology assessment
  • Proven track record of establishing and enforcing enterprise-wide security policies and frameworks
  • Strong background in vendor risk management, security assessments, and contract negotiation
  • Experience working with legal teams on security, privacy, and regulatory compliance matters
  • Demonstrated ability to make autonomous security decisions with enterprise-wide impact
  • Excellent executive communication skills and ability to influence senior stakeholders
  • Deep understanding of AI/ML risks, algorithmic governance, and responsible AI practices
  • Knowledge of security frameworks (NIST AI RMF, ISO 27001, SOC 2) and regulatory requirements
  • Strong project management and organizational skills for managing multiple concurrent initiatives

Nice to Have:

  • Advanced degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Risk Management, or related field
  • Security certifications (CISSP, CISA, CISM, CRISC, or similar)
  • Experience in leadership roles with P&L or budget responsibility
  • Background in AI governance frameworks and emerging AI regulations (EU AI
