About the role

Grand Canyon University is seeking a position at Arena Cafe/Events Cook to support the mission of Grand Canyon University through GCU's Food Services department.

Position Summary/Purpose:

The purpose of this position is to assist the restaurant and concessions on campus, Arena Cafe & Events, by working as a Cook.

Primary Responsibilities/Accountabilities/Essential Functions:

  • Prepare and cook menu items under the supervision of the Senior Supervisors, Supervisors, and Leads

  • Follow recipes, portion controls, and presentation specifications as set by the restaurant

  • Set up and stock stations with necessary supplies before each shift

  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of workstations during and after service

  • Assist with prep work such as chopping vegetables, portioning ingredients, and marinating proteins

  • Handle food safely and follow all sanitation and food handling guidelines

  • Assist with receiving, rotating, and storing kitchen inventory

  • Support other kitchen staff with tasks as needed to ensure smooth operations

  • Report any kitchen equipment issues or food shortages to the supervisor

  • Follow kitchen opening and closing procedures

  • Complies with all HACCP policies and procedures.

  • May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.                                      

Qualifications:  

  • Willingness to be open to learning and growing.

  • Maintains a positive attitude.

  • Must be able to work weekday mornings, evenings, and weekends.

  • Must have a Maricopa County Food Handler’s Card and non-slip shoes.

  • Prior customer Cook and/or food service experience is a plus​.

Experience/Education:

Grand Canyon University is committed to a student first policy.
Therefore, all applicants must meet the following eligibility requirements to be considered for student employment:

  • Enrolled at GCU as a full-time student in a Bachelor’s program or Master’s program. 

  • Retain a 2.0 GPA as a Bachelor level student or a 3.0 GPA as a Master level student.

  • Maintain good financial and academic (SAP) standing with the University.

You may be subject to termination if you fall below the minimum requirements. 

Pay Rate: Minimum Wage

Anticipated End Date: June 30, 2026
