Our strategy is to reduce emissions from power generation with an ambition to become fossil free within one generation.</p><p>We are looking for a Senior Specialist – HVDC Protection & Control Systems to work within our Business Area Wind, Offshore, Engineering. The Engineering department is the technical know-how centre within Business Area Wind, setting the standards and guidelines as well as being embedded within our projects to drive technical excellence through the whole project lifecycle.</p><p>Working within the Technical Engineering team of the Electrical Infrastructure department, the Senior Specialist for HVDC protection and control shall provide technical leadership across the entire development and operational portfolio.</p><h3>Job Description</h3><p><strong>Key Responsibilities;</strong></p><p><strong>Description of the position as Senior Specialist – HVDC Protection and Control Systems</strong></p><ul><li>Technical leadership of all HVDC protection and control systems, with portfolio-wide Technical Authority across full asset lifetime.</li><li>Work with dedicated engineering specialists to provide scalable technical leadership, establishing a framework of processes, guidelines and other resources to maximise operational efficiency of Engineering.</li><li>Lead technical investigations on asset performance/optimisation and equipment failures across operational fleet. Act as proactive and visible Engineering link to all operational assets</li><li>Work with internal R&D & Joint Industry Project and Academic institutions to promote innovation, balance new technologies against portfolio risk and control IP/Patent environment for scope area</li><li>Ensure safety, environment and sustainability considerations are inherent in the design and delivery of all products and systems within scope area.</li><li>Act as approving authority for technical documentation related to the design, construction, commissioning, and maintenance procedures across HVDC protection and control scope.</li><li>Support Engineering Management in identifying competency and capacity gaps within department and seek resourcing solutions (internal and external) to maintain and build range of technical capability.</li><li>Act as Vattenfall technical ambassador for industry events/consultations relating to scope area.</li><li>Support Package and Product Engineering to inject technical leadership into all stages of the project lifecycle. Control levels of technical variation within Product/Project portfolio and building learnings into standardisation strategy and processes</li><li>Act as a mentor for colleagues in scope area.</li><li>Demonstrate technical leadership and extend influence beyond normal job responsibilities.</li></ul><h3>Qualifications</h3><p><strong>Your Background</strong></p><ul><li>Extensive experience within transmission-systems protection and control design up to extra high voltage level. Experience drawn from across complete asset lifecycle would be of benefit.</li><li>Ability to identify and lead key technical topics, balancing both technical and commercial imperatives.</li><li>Act as reviewer of key technical documentation. Ability to take decisions in field of responsibility.</li><li>Participate in and, on occasion, lead technical investigations into equipment failures.</li><li>Strong HSE culture, with a strong commitment to contribute to the development and delivery of inherently safer wind farm projects.</li><li>Demonstratable leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills; ability to handle interfaces and collaborate across functions.</li><li>High degree of self-motivation with a flexible approach to work.</li><li>Degree level educated in electrical/power systems or other engineering discipline.</li><li>Good English language skills.
