Description
Position Summary:
The Medical Coder will work as a team member with Billing Specialists to assure data entry is accurate and complete. The Medical Coder is responsible for all aspects of medical coding for all Provider services. The Medical Coder will understand ICD-10, CPT and HCPCS coding; have the ability to interpret insurance guidelines relative to medical coding; understand daily balancing techniques; understand abbreviations and medical terminology; have the ability to read a medical chart; and be able to understand the basic components of medical and ancillary procedures. At all times the Medical Coder will conduct their work efforts with the ultimate goal of providing high quality, efficient service for the patients and payers of Bluestem Health.
Essential Duties:
- Review procedural and diagnostic coding for all services
- Education of Providers and office staff of correct coding procedures in order to improve accuracy.
- Identify opportunities for improvement and bring issues to the attention of the appropriate supervisor
- Enter Charges Daily
- Documentation on changes and as needed
- Review and keep codes up to date
- Query providers for clarification
Other duties as assigned
Requirements
· At least three years of experience in family practice preferred
· CPT and ICD-10 Coding experience
· Billing experience a plus but not required
· FQHC coding experience preferred
· Certified Medical Coder preferred
· Strong computer skills, including data-entry
· Highly organized and ability to meet deadlines
· Attentive to detail, quality and accuracy
· Self-starter and able to work with minimal supervision
· Ability to interrelate with wide variety of people
· Ability to maintain high level of confidentiality
· Qualified to be bonded and pass background test
