The Messaging Platforms team is responsible for building and maintaining the platforms, services, and pipelines which enable Yahoo to target the right user with the right notification at the right time. We send billions of push notifications a day through our platform Rivendell. Our data pipelines enable the delivery of large scale newsletters. We leverage cutting edge technologies to deliver highly impactful projects enabling Yahoo to compete on a global scale.

Responsibilities

This job will focus on backend, but there will be periods where we need to enhance our 2 user-facing applications written in React and Angular. You will also work on their Python and Java backends as well as our core platforms which are mainly written in Java. You will be a team leader, looking to ensure best practices are followed and ensuring junior developers thrive through a combination of code reviews and direct feedback. You will look to expand the platform by understanding business objectives and requirements.

• Work on development initiatives as part of a scrum team on sprint cycles.

• Closely interact with our stakeholders (Product Owners/Managers, Business Analysts, others) for clarity on sprint items and for verification of developed solutions.

• Participate in team activities such as sprint grooming sessions, project or product discussions, brown bags as well as the occasional team outing.

• Follow appropriate coding standards and best practices as applicable.

• Document your work well.

• Participate in code reviews for your peers.

• Collaborate with your peers to find solutions to complex problems. Share knowledge with your peers and also learn from them as required.

• Work on operational and production support for the applications we build and maintain.

• Work towards quarterly team and organizational goals that should be result oriented and measurable.

Minimum Qualifications:

• 6+ years of experience in Software Engineering

• Bachelors or Masters degree in Computer Science or related area

• Experience in Web design, UI design

• Familiarity with Front-end frameworks/libraries (React, Angular)

• Coding experience in HTML, CSS, Javascript

• Thorough understanding of object oriented programming

• Thorough understanding and experience with relational and non-relational databases.

• Good analytical, problem solving and debugging skills.

Preferred:

• Experience in Javascript using React and GraphQL

• Experience in Python or Java and willingness to learn

• Experience with Cloud Providers (AWS, GCP)
