Assistant Materials Manager

Position Summary: The Assistant Materials Manager is responsible for the purchasing of production material, demand and supply planning, purchase order requisitions, ERP purchasing, assisting in cost savings and the RMA process to ensure the highest level of performance. This position works closely with the production team to eliminate shortages and assist with the organization of materials. The Assistant Materials Manager also assists in growing and managing vendor relationships to best meet needs of the facility.
Duties / Responsibilities:
- Plan, create, and expedite purchase orders as required.
- Maintain adequate stock levels while assisting the company in achieving inventory goals.
- Problem-solve and manage supply information relating to purchasing and receiving; must develop a good working knowledge of the ERP system.
- Analyze sales order releases with respect to capacity planning and material requirements.
- Manage inventory, levels, schedules, and availability of selected items, either manufactured or purchased, to meet production schedules.
- Review work-in-process material reviews from production floor.
- Communicate with manufacturing personnel, the purchasing department and supervisors on materials status and production planning issues.
- Conduct continuous inventory reviews. Verify on-hand against ERP and lead time.
- Weekly follow-up of past due orders with suppliers.
- Assist in cost savings initiatives and supplier performance feedback.
- Help develop and reinforce proper inventory practices.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- 1-3 years’ prior relevant experience.
- Must be able to pass a background check.
- Experience using ERP/Oracle systems and applications in a manufacturing environment strongly preferred.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Must have experience with Microsoft office applications, specifically in Excel.
- Strong systems/process orientation with analytical thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Must have a sense of urgency and ability to prioritize tasks.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors and coworkers.
- Excellent project management and follow-up skills.
Physical Demands:
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
- Work may require stooping, bending, crouching, crawling, pushing, and / or pulling.
- Must be able to communicate with others via phone, email, and in person. Must be able to exchange accurate information with others.
- Work environment is not temperature controlled and may result in exposure to extreme temperatures.
- Work primarily involves sitting / standing, up to 4 hours at a time.
