About Our Job

As the Claims Intern you'll support insurance adjusters by processing, documenting, and managing insurance claims. You'll be responsible for gathering information, updating databases, answering inquiries, and ensuring claims move efficiently, acting as a key administrative link for the County. This role offers exposure to insurance operations, requiring strong organizational, communication, and computer skills. While this position will have autonomy, it will have significant direction and support from management. Candidate will be assigned mentor who will be their coach for meeting preparations, presentations and overall professional guidance.

Your internship will include impactful hands-on work within a department, networking, professional development, and building long lasting connections with other interns, mentors, and Sarasota County team members.

Department Responsibilities:

• Data Entry and File Maintenance: Creating new claim records, updating systems with accurate information, and scanning documents.
• Investigation Assistance: Help with initial claim assessments, research, and verifying facts.
• Communication: Work with departments to obtain claim documentation.
• Documentation Management: Reviewing claims forms for completeness, gathering necessary documents (police reports), and organizing files.
• Support Adjusters: Assisting claims adjusters by setting up files, researching information, and occasionally processing small, straightforward claims.
• Collaborate with your department colleagues to make and influence real changes.

Internship Program Responsibilities:

• A presentation to the County Administrator and other County Leadership staff is required at the close of the internship program on Friday, August 7, 2026.
• Participate in all organized intern events and trainings.

About You

Minimum Qualifications:

• Ages 16-17 with parental consent, or 18 and above.
• Eligible to work in the United States – we love local, national, and international students!
• Active, enrolled student.
• High School degree or equivalent.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Enrolled in college or university at least in junior year or above in Health Informatics, Data Analytics/Strategy or Data Science degree, Risk & Insurance Management or Risk Analyst type of degree. Business, Finance, Statistics, Public Administration, or Computer Science.
