Civil Engineering Intern

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES:

Duties will include assisting with various types of civil engineering activities including studies and design.  Basic civil engineering skills to assist with these activities include transportation planning/design, drainage design, water and/or wastewater design.  Travel will be based upon individual project and group needs.

 Working knowledge of MS Word and Excel, required.  AutoCAD and/or MicroStation skills are important.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:  Qualified candidates must have a minimum of a BS degree in Civil Engineering.

Must pass Fundamentals in Engineering exam within one year of employment.  Ability to sit for PE exam and become a licensed Oklahoma PE after completing the time requirement under supervision of a PE. 

Experience: 0-3 years design experience.  Fundamental understanding of roadway geometrics, roadway design criteria, hydraulic design of drainage structures and bridges is required.  Transportation design and drainage design experience a plus.  Experience in the preparation of construction plan documents is a plus.  Understanding of the use of Autocad, Civil3D, Microstation, and Excel is also a plus.

Essential Physical Functions: Stand or sit – must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time. Walk –this position requires the ability to move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc. – 25% of the time. Full range of motion to walk, stoop and stand while working on worksites – 25% of the time. Use hands/fingers – must be able to operate a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer – 50% of the time. Talk – This position frequently communicates with internal and external customers, must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations – 25% of the time. Vision – must be able to clearly focus on information located on a computer screen, paperwork, etc. – 50% of the time. Lift/Carry – must be able to lift/carry up to 30 lbs. of site equipment when necessary.
