Associate Director, Medical Digital Strategy

Position Summary:
The Associate Director, Medical Digital Strategy will lead implementation and refinement of the Medical Affairs (MA) digital strategy. The role encompasses accountability and responsibility for many MA information systems, ensuring all configurations align with medical affairs processes, ensuring that outputs of each system lead to meaningful actions, and providing continuous feedback to MA Leadership Team members in the form of automated data and information flows. This lead is responsible for driving all phases of digital strategy including design, platform selection, requirements, configuration, implementation, and optimization. As a service to all medical affairs functions, this role will be responsible for creating digital solutions to solve challenges, and reports to the Senior Director, Medical Excellence
Key Responsibilities Include:
- Responsible for development and execution of the MA digital strategy and technology platform presence
- Oversee and maintain Apellis MedicalHub websites globally including content management, SEO and analytics
- Manage Field Medical Content Management system globally including training, access and metrics
- Identify performance or efficiency gaps within MA, and tools and processes to fill
- Track medical affairs industry best practices and tools in operations and technology, and make recommendations to incorporate into digital strategy
- Partner with MA Operations and IT in championing Medical Affairs digital strategy and dashboards. Contribute to an MA culture of continuous process improvement based on evidence and data
- Identify and operationalize innovative ways to drive healthcare professional’s awareness, adoption, and utilization of Apellis’s digital initiatives, including use of AI
- Represent MA with current and new technology vendors, eg platforms enabling CRM, KOL profiling, materials review, insights collection and analytics
- Work with International and US MA teams to identify and leverage the valuable insights gained from digital analytics
- Partner with Medical Affairs Leadership as well as Corporate Communications, Regulatory, Compliance and Legal to develop a consistent, value-added, digital customer experience, including omnichannel initiatives
- Oversee systems, processes and reporting for KOL data including KOL profiling, social listening monitoring, Digital Opinion Leaders, KOL Knowledge and Behavior Surveys
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree required ; MBA preferred
- 8 years experience in pharmaceutical/biotech sector leading technology initiatives within a scientific or commercial function; and/or data management and analytics
- Experience with common technologies used by Medical Affairs teams such as Veeva, Envision, Symmertryk, Salesforce, Wordpress
Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:
- Ability to prioritize workload and accurately forecast timeframes for projected completion
- Effectively communicates with team members and stakeholders regarding medical affairs operational activities
- Asks appropriate questions to ensure that expected outcomes are achieved
- Ability to influence without direct authority
- Strong quantitative skills and ability to translate numbers into meaningful findings
- Experience in and/or documented ability to quickly learn and lead development of technology platforms specific to medical affairs, e.g., insight collection and analysis, CRM, medical information inquiry management, KOL profiling and mapping
- Process design and aligning technology to fulfill process requirements
- Aligning leaders on process and system requirements
- Change management and technology support
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Must be well organized and able to multi-task in a fast-paced deadline-driven environment
