The Role: Regional EHS Director, Construction

This role leads environmental, health, and safety strategy and execution for construction projects across a defined region. You are accountable for consistent EHS outcomes across multiple active sites, contractor partners, and stakeholder groups. The role balances regulatory compliance, risk reduction, and operational partnership to ensure safe delivery of Switch construction programs.

This role is based in the Atlanta Metro area. Remote work is not an option.

What You’ll Do

  • Own regional construction EHS strategy and execution across multiple sites, ensuring consistent standards, practices, and outcomes.

  • Lead EHS compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, including environmental compliance and required recordkeeping.

  • Partner with construction, operations, legal, insurance, and external stakeholders to resolve complex EHS issues and risks.

  • Set expectations and oversee third-party construction contractors and subcontractors, including review and enforcement of site-specific safety plans.

  • Manage and direct third-party safety consultants representing Switch on construction projects.

  • Oversee incident investigations that meet defined thresholds and ensure corrective actions are implemented and sustained.

  • Monitor contractor safety performance, identify trends, and require corrective actions when performance falls below expectations.

  • Drive continuous improvement by sharing lessons learned and best practices across regions and stakeholder groups.

  • Serve as the primary liaison with regulatory agencies, insurance representatives, and clients on construction EHS matters.

  • Lead regional EHS budgeting and resource planning to ensure efficient use of people, tools, and programs.

  • Manage and develop regional EHS team members, setting priorities, reviewing performance, and building capability.

  • Partner closely with operational safety teams to manage risks where construction activities impact live facilities.

  • Lead and participate in regional and departmental safety meetings.

  • Ensure accurate tracking and reporting of EHS metrics and performance data.

  • Deliver EHS training as needed to support safe execution of construction work.

What We’re Looking For

  • A leader who sets clear expectations and holds teams and partners accountable for safety outcomes.

  • Sound judgment in ambiguous situations, using multiple data points to make decisions that reduce risk and support business goals.

  • Direct, clear communication with employees, contractors, regulators, and business partners.

  • Comfort addressing conflict, enforcing standards, and escalating issues when required.

  • Strong planning and prioritization skills across multiple concurrent projects and sites.

  • A practical, improvement-focused approach to safety that balances compliance with real-world execution.

What You’ll Bring

Required

  • Progressive experience leading construction-related EHS programs with responsibility across multiple sites or projects.

  • Demonstrated experience developing, implementing, and sustaining EHS programs and training.

  • Experience managing EHS professionals and influencing contractors and external partners.

  • Working knowledge of construction safety regulations and environmental compliance requirements.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools, including Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook, and dashboard tools such as Power BI.

  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English fluently.

Preferred

  • Approximately 10 years of construction safety experience with increasing scope and accountability.
