About the role

The Johns Hopkins Center for Health Security at the Bloomberg School of Public Health works to protect people’s health from epidemics and disasters and ensure that communities are resilient to major challenges. We examine how scientific and technological innovations can strengthen health security. We study the policies, organizations, systems, and tools to prevent and respond to outbreaks and public health crises. We advance policies and practice to address a range of challenges, including the global rise in emerging infectious diseases, a continued risk of pandemic flu, major natural disasters, our dependence on vulnerable infrastructure, and the potential for biological threats.


To support our mission, we are seeking a Sr. Grants & Contracts Analyst – Post Award. This role will assist the financial team at CHS in an ad hoc capacity for management of a diverse portfolio of federal and foundational funds for the faculty of the Center for Health Security. The Sr. GCA – Post Award will assist with post-award functions, including account maintenance, billing/invoicing, reporting, compliance, and closeout. This position will work independently on grants/contracts ranging from simple to highly complex, providing guidance on protocols, regulations, and guidelines to principal investigators (PIs) and other research professionals.


The Sr. GCA – Post Award will report directly to the Center Administrator and will support business continuity during staffing shortage due to turnover on the financial team. They will assist with post-award management of sponsored and nonsponsored accounts, will provide ad hoc projections and advice to the financial team during this transitional period, will support the Administrator in payroll review and processing of HR requests for hiring of staff, faculty, and students, including appointment materials and faculty salary support letter creation.


Additionally, the Sr. GCA – Post Award will assist the Administrator with suggestions on training to address knowledge gaps in the team’s capabilities for support of the center ongoing functions and will liaise and connect the financial team with the various offices which assist departments in their financial management of cost-area funding. The Sr. GCA- Post Award will serve as approval delegate for the Administrator for Accounts Payable, Travel Expenses and Reports on an as-needed basis.


This position will be responsible for assistance also in processing expenditure allocation for review and approval by the Administrator, divisional business, and central offices.


Special Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Ensure compliance with grant and contract management policies within JHU, including notification and reminders for training noncompliance for conflict of interest and effort certification.
  • Assist with management of post-award processes, including award setup, account verification, and salary distribution.
  • Assist in completion of post award tasks, including budget distribution, account reconciliation, invoicing, reporting, closeout.
  • Assist the Administrator in submission of HR related requests and review of accounts and payroll data and onboarding of new faculty, students, and staff to the Center.


Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Knowledge of university policies including procurement, HR and payroll activities, accounting and budgeting theory and practices.
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of The Johns Hopkins University accounting system and related fiscal offices preferred.
  • Ability to make independent judgments and to act on decisions on a daily basis.
  • Ability to work with flexibility on several tasks simultaneously and to meet various concurrent deadlines.
  • Intermediate Excel skills (use of formulas and pivot tables) required.



Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • Four years of related experience in sponsored research and/or financial positions, preferably in an academic or medical setting.
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Familiarity with JHU Systems : SAP, Fibi, SWiFT, JAWS.
