SUMMARY

As Firefly’s newest Data Engineer, you will lead the buildout of Power BI Fabric, designing and optimizing data models, pipelines, and governance frameworks to support both immediate business needs and long-term scalability. You’ll team up with the BI team to partner cross-functionally with IT, business users of our analytics solutions, as well as the business/technical owners of our software applications to ensure seamless data accessibility, security, and performance, while laying the groundwork for future AI/ML and predictive analytics capabilities.

This role is ideal for someone with technical expertise in Azure data services, SQL, and manufacturing business processes, managing the short & long-term needs of the business in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Design, implement, and scale Azure-based data models (normalized and denormalized) to serve as the foundation for a cross-functional, dynamic reporting ecosystem
• Develop and automate ETL/ELT pipelines to transform raw data into structured, actionable insights, leveraging Azure OneLake, Synapse Analytics, and Power BI Premium Capacity for efficient storage, processing, and reporting
• Define and implement data governance frameworks, including data lineage, cataloging, standardization, and role-based access control (RBAC) to ensure enterprise-wide data accessibility and security
• Optimize data structures and performance, refining fact/dimension table architectures, indexing, and partitioning strategies to support large-scale analytics
• Collaborate cross-functionally with BI analysts, business users, IT, ERP teams, and leadership to ensure data integrity, define reporting requirements, and scale Firefly’s analytics infrastructure
• Must be willing to travel between Firefly’s Texas facilities (HQ in Cedar Park, Rocket Ranch in Briggs, and the Spacecraft facility in Leander)

QUALIFICATIONS

Required

• 4+ years of experience in data engineering, ETL development, or cloud data architecture
• Experience deploying and scaling Azure cloud services & power apps (Azure Data Factory, Synapse Analytics, Azure Data Lake, Azure SQL, and Power BI Premium Capacity)
• Highly proficient in SQL for query optimization, stored procedures, and relational database design
• Familiarity with Power BI data modeling (DAX, Power Query, dataset optimization)
• Strong knowledge of data governance, data security, and role-based access control (RBAC)
• Python or PySpark proficiency for data processing and automation

Desired

• Background in manufacturing, aerospace, and/or supply chain industries
• Experience integrating APIs and external data sources for data ingestion, transformation, and system interoperability
• Experience applying machine learning (ML), artificial intelligence (AI), and natural language processing (NLP) techniques for predictive analytics and advanced data modeling
