Senior Certified Weld Inspector - Quality

Based in our Cudahy, WI location, you will be responsible for supervising quality performance, inspecting product, processes, materials and evaluating procedures in the assigned areas to ensure conformance to customer specification and company standards as required by ASME code. We are looking for an accountable, self-motivated candidate to apply strong practical expertise in ASME coded product to drive quality, delivery, and service improvements to our customers. Act as key subject matter expert and liaison working with local schools and events to develop the talent funnel. Build, lead and manage quality actions and events, evaluate performance, and develop training strategies and techniques to improve success of existing and new welders. Work with Production, Supply Chain and other department team members to identify and implement improvement initiatives.
AS A SENIOR CERTIFIED WELD INSPECTOR, YOU WILL:
- Supervise and be responsible for CWI/ASME Inspection activities: inspection and measurement of incoming raw materials, finished and in-process products to ensure compliance with dimensional, physical and visual requirements. Verify that customer requirements and company quality standards are met as required by ASME code. Manage completion & maintenance of all necessary company ASME documentation.
- Act as additional resource for CWI/ASME Inspectors to perform non-destructive testing. (MT, PT, Ultrasonic) and x-ray film interpretation, preparation of vessel job travelers for review by authorized inspector and release to manufacturing.
- Act as primary liaison with Authorized Inspector
- Audit quality manual and specifications for compliance to ASME code requirements
- Participate on cross functional teams to address and resolve quality problems and to ensure the continuous, on-going improvement of processes and methods.
- Provide technical leadership and perform inspection results and trend analysis, provide guidance to CWIs and production welders to prepare, conduct, maintain and upgrade individual qualifications & performance to ASME, Section IX requirements
- Report on results of quality inspections, training progress, resolve disputes and manage tactical talent pipeline
- Establish welder performance tracking and manage improvement strategy to include control plans, improvement plans and techniques in accordance with code standards
- Network to build talent pipeline and recruitment efforts, act as liaison to local trade schools & recruitment events
- Maintain desired level of Quality and workmanship, while improving productivity and efficiency of production
- Review QA & QC methods, processes and programs of production and vendors
- Travel to required sites to perform field inspection as required
- Completion of other duties and responsibilities as directed by the Quality Manager.
REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, & SKILLS:
- Current CWI certification required.
- Minimum of 5-10 years of hands-on welding, fit-up and welding inspection
- Qualified to ASME weld requirements & ability to interpret and apply knowledge of ASME 31.3 & 31.5
- Understanding of various weld techniques
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical documents.
- Working knowledge with Microsoft Office applications (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, etc.)
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- AWS SWI Certification, equivalent or less than 3 year timeframe to complete
- Legal authorization to work in the United States - Sponsorship will not be provided for this position.
PREFERRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, & SKILLS:
- Associates degree in Welding Technology or equivalent
- 2-4 years prior managerial experience
- Track record of maintaining a strong safety record
- Broad knowledge of manufacturing processes.
- Experience with CRN and PED requirements
