Job Description:

Department Overview

The Commercial National Accounts ("CNA") team operates within TD Business Banking and provides dedicated relationship coverage to the larger commercial clients across all industry sectors. This client base is primarily designated by size of credit facilities being extended and/or complex cash management needs. It also encompasses all commercial clients with syndicated credit facilities (regardless of size). The group consists of senior commercial banking professionals who combine specific industry knowledge and extensive deal structuring experience to offer a full suite of customized credit and cash management solutions to meet the complex needs of our clients.

Within CNA, the Financial Sponsors Group is a specialized team focused on covering private equity firms and providing financing to support their portfolio companies. The team works closely with the TD Securities team in the firm's overall coverage activities.

Job Details

The Director, Credit Execution leads a team of Associates & Associate Directors, providing guidance, leadership, coaching and development to ensure business results and professional / personal development objectives are achieved for the overall group. The Director, Credit Execution works closely with the Director, Origination for the overall execution of transactions and is responsible for the credit portfolio, ensuring structured deals meet risk policies, and may also actively structure more complex deals in the unit or market.  Accountable for delivering a superior customer experience while driving profitable business growth, in line with business strategy. The specific role is covering CNA's Financial Sponsor Group, providing leverage financing and other capital requirements to operating companies predominantly owned by private equity investors.

Specific job functions include:

  • Lead the execution and achievement of the business's customer and partner experience targets; coach and model appropriate behavior and execute plans to continuously improve customer experience.
  • Work with deal team to complete initial due diligence on new opportunities including business, industry, financial and commercial due diligence.  
  • Contribute to growth of the unit by assisting in structuring competitive packages while maintaining a balanced view of risk and credit quality.
  • Responsible for transaction execution along with the other members of the deal team
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of the business plan, goal setting, growth strategies and coaching for the Unit.
  • Assess, and manage, credit risk in compliance with applicable internal and external requirements (e.g. financial controls, risk policies) to increase profitability and enable business growth.
  • Oversee, lead, and coach a team of associates & associate directors while growing talent, developing skills and capabilities to achieve career goals and business results.
  • The team coordinates closely with TD Securities for M&A advisory, equity and other debt capital markets expertise as required.

Job Requirements

Qualifications/Skills/Experience:

  • Previous experience in Commercial Banking, with preference for experience in private equity finance and/or leveraged buyouts.
  • Robust organizational and team management skills with the ability to work in a demanding environment and handle multiple deadlines and changing priorities.
  • Very solid credit, analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Strong team player, with an ability to work both in a team environment and independently.
  • The ability to engage in active dialogue with internal and external stakeholders (Unit VP, clients, legal counsel etc.).
